About New York Jets

Established in 1959, the New York Jets are one of the two football franchises in the New York Metropolitan area. The team was originally named the Titans of New York and competed in the American Football League. The team began to play in 1960 at the Polo Grounds. Under new ownership, the current name was adopted in 1963 and the franchise moved to Shea Stadium in 1964 and then to the Meadowlands Sports Complex in 1984.

When the Jets won Super Bowl III in 1969 by defeating the Baltimore Colts, they helped solidify the position of AFL teams in the football world. The New York Jets currently compete in the AFC East Division of the league. They last won a Divisional title in 2002 and have been in wavering form since then. As of 2024, the Jets are tied with the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL for the longest playoff drought in North American professional sports. Their last postseason appearance came in the 2010 season when they reached the AFC Championship game. As of October 2024, the New York Jets franchise is valued at around $6.9 billion (via Forbes).

New York Jets Next Game

The Jets entered the 2024 NFL season with Super Bowl aspirations behind healthy Aaron Rodgers, who got hurt in the first game of the 2023 season. After dropping the season opener 19-32 to the San Francisco 49ers, the Jets went on a two-game winning streak which saw them open the season 2-1. Both their wins came over the New England Patriots and Tennessee Titans. However, in the next two weeks, New York went on to lose their next two games against the Denver Broncos and Minnesota Vikings which saw their head coach Robert Saleh getting fired. Jeff Ulbrich, who served as the defensive coordinator under Saleh's regime since 2021, was named the interim head coach of the team on October 8, 2024. However, even Ulbrich's leadership is unable to turn the Jets' fortunes around as the team is on a 3-game losing streak by the end of October. Out of those three losses, two have come against divisional rivals Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots, along with one blowout loss against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Next, they’ll play the Houston Texans at MetLife Stadium on October 31st before going into BYE week. Coming out of BYE week, the Jets have Arizona Cardinals, Indianapolis Colts, and Seattle Seahawks on their schedule. In their last five games, New York will play three divisional games, with two of them coming against the Miami Dolphins, and one against the Bills.

New York Jets Roster 2024-25

The four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, who is in the twilight of his career, will be eager to get one more shot at the prestigious Lombardi trophy with one of the best dual-threat rushers in Breece Hall as the primary workhorse out of the backfield. After trading for Davante Adams in mid-October, Rodgers would also have three 1000-yard receivers with Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams at his disposal. The offensive line that got completely reshaped in the offseason has Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses, and rookie Olu Fashanu as the new faces. The only starters returning on the offensive line from last season are Alijah Vera-Tucker and Joe Tippmann. However, the defensive side saw some notable pieces like Bryce Huff and John Franklin-Myers leave in free agency. But getting Hasson Reddick (via trade) to pair up with Jermaine Johnson and Quinnen Williams on the defensive line has the potential to pay huge dividends for the Jets, as Reddick agreed to play after a long holdout, which saw him miss the first seven games. C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams form a terrific linebacker duo along with an elite cornerback trio of Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, and Michael Carter keeping opposite wide receivers in check.

New York Jets Championships

The Jets advanced to the playoffs for the first time in 1968 and went on to compete in Super Bowl III where they defeated the Baltimore Colts, becoming the first AFL team to defeat an NFL club in an AFL–NFL World Championship Game. Since 1968, the Jets have appeared in the playoffs 13 times, and in the AFC Championship Game four times, most recently losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2010. However, the Jets have never returned to the Super Bowl, making them one of three NFL teams to win their lone Super Bowl appearance, along with the New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Apart from the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions, who have never reached the Super Bowl, the Jets' drought is the longest among current NFL franchises.

The Jets have failed to make it to the Playoffs since 2010. They have won 4 Divisional titles, 1 AFL Championship, and 1 Super Bowl as of 2024.
