England Team Players List for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023
Reigning world champions England will defend their title under the leadership of dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler in the 13th edition of the marquee event in India between October 05-19.
England have retained most of the core that got the job done in 2o19. The top-order is led by the dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Jonny Bairstow followed by a couple of anchor-bashers in Joe Root and Dawid Malan.
The defending champions had initially included blistering opener Jason Roy in the 15-member touring party, but he has now been replaced by Harry Brook in the final squad.
The return of Ben Stokes to the squad is a huge boost for the defending champions as his experience in the middle-order will provide a lot of solidity to their line-up.
Champion wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler will have a triple job to do in the upcoming World Cup. Apart from giving his team an impetus in the middle and death overs and wicket keeping duties, he will also have the responsibility of leading the team as a tactician and as a leader.
Liam Livingstone is another great addition to the squad as he not only brings fire-power to the middle-order- especially against spinners- but also gives Jos a wrist-spin option.
Speaking of wrist-spin, veteran spinner Adil Rashid will once again lead the department, alongside off-spinner Moeen Ali.
As always, England are stacked with medium-pace all-rounder like David Willey, and Sam Curran and an out-and-out swing bowler in Chris Woakes while Mark Wood and Gus Atkinson are included to inject much-needed pace. In addition to this, they also have a tall left-arm seamer in Reece Topley.
England will, however, most likely miss the service of Jofra Archer. The injury-ridden pacer will travel with the squad but as a reserve player.
