That concludes that rather awkward in-door presentation from the match. Mitchell Marsh takes the trophy and his players offer a nice smile to the cameras to celebrate. A bit of rainy luck but Australia would feel they were the deserved winners. England might have a hard time taking a moral victory from this one but under a young captain, they showed a lot of exciting facets of their game throughout and that 2-2 bounce back would fill Brook with confidence for the future. This is the pair of Rudransh and Pragadeesh signing off for Sportskeeda, we'll see you in another game on another day soon!
Mitchell Marsh (Australia captain): They were on track for a big total. We assessed totals really well. I think that's (all-rounders) been a trend. More bowling options, the more you can throw the batters off-guard. Long may that continue. It has been a challenge (changes). We had a talk about it. We were able to field really strong 11s. We have some senior players to help us out. Hopefully, we have a lot in the tank. Trophies are hard to win and we are excited. Looking forward to Pakistan. We have emphasised on the young players coming in. You could see Hardie doing what he has always done. Hopefully the young guys had a good experience.
Harry Brook (England Captain) - Nice to get some runs and contribute... I haven't played too much but it's nice to contribute. We are looking long-term and we are building towards the World Competition. It's a new brand of Cricket. Duckett opens the batting and four seams putting the pressure on their top-order. We didn't get the wickets inside the powerplay. The captaincy has been good and this is something I will do in the future but now, I will hand over to Jos. The people took the wrong way.
Travis Head (Player of the Series) - Death bowling as well. Nice to get the job done. It depends on where I bowl. We have a lot of options but when I am needed, I am ready go. Pleased to get off to a good start. Winning the series is a great thing. Staying relax is key and I can stay consistent as long as I can. I am moving well and thinking well. We can get there, we played well. We have a few different players for the Pakistan tour and we see how it goes.
22:30 IST and 6pm local time: Official: The rest of the match has been ABANDONED! Australia win by 49 runs by DLS method and take home the series 3-2.
Matthew Short 58 (30) | Travis Head (4/28) Ben Duckett 107 (91) | Brydon Carse (1/36)
It's so crazy to think that England would have not lost this game and series had they taken 10 more minutes to bowl their overs. They tried their best, though, giving a ton of overs to pacers, holding Adil Rashid back until they had to use him and Potts even clearly making fuss of a shoe issue.
But at the end of the day, four balls, perhaps helped by Steven Smith's insistence to leaving everything at the end helped them too. England made a lot of mistakes, for good measure. Their new-ball bowlers were too short, allowing Short and Head to get off to excellent starts which meant DLS target was never going to be an issue on runs.
Carse struck out Head after an excellent series for the left-hander and Potts finally bowled a couple of full balls to set-up Short. Smith almost got out to the latter bowler, too, but was saved by DRS. The stand-in captain and Inglis calmly saw off the rest of the phase, including some turning balls from Rashid.
Time to spare? Check this Short (no pun intended) six from earlier in the evening. We are watching it on repeat :)
Rakesh - It was a totally up and down game but the Matt Short innings in the powerplay pushed the game all towards Australia - Spot on, Rakesh
10:18 PM IST, 5:50 PM Local - The rain continues to fall... It won't take long for the officials to decide enough is enough.
Alex - Mitchell Starc getting Harry Brook with an unplayable delivery at Leeds...That was top-notch, else England would've easily won that match considering Brook's form now
