Thanks to his bowling skillset, Olly Stone has been part of various franchise leagues. He has a good track record in domestic cricket but is yet to fire on all cylinders for the English cricket team.
Olly Stone Domestic Career
Olly Stone was born in the English town of Norwich and completed his schooling at Thorpe St. Andrew School in his city. It was here that he developed an interest in cricket and went on to play for the school teams, before moving on to the county cricket clubs.
Stone started playing cricket in 2010 for his home team of Norfolk and played for 2 years. Also, he signed up for the Northamptonshire County team in 2011 and made his T20 debut for the team. He played 30 matches for Northamptonshire till 2016 and took 112 wickets in first-class Cricket. He was released by Northamptonshire following his knee injury. He was later signed by Warwickshire for 3 years in 2017. Stone signed up for Nottinghamshire in 2022.
Stone made his List-A debut for Northamptonshire against Warwickshire on May 27, 2012, at Northampton. He got the opportunity to bat as well as bowl but failed to make an impact in the match, as he scored 0 runs and took 0 wickets in the match. The match was won by Warwickshire by 8 wickets.
The first-class (FC) debut for Olly Stone came on May 30, 2012, for Northamptonshire against Yorkshire at Leeds. He took a wicket in 16 overs and scored 13 runs in this match, which ended in a draw. Stone made his T20 debut against Durham on July 14, 2011, and was bowled on the first ball of his career. He was bowled out by Paul Collingwood, who took a hattrick in that match. The match was also won by Durham by 97 runs.

Stone played his first Test match against Ireland on July 24, 2019, and took 3 wickets in the match. The match was won by England by 143 runs. After a gap of 3 years when he suffered a serious back injury in 2021, Stone returned to the Test cricket format for Sri Lanka’s tour of England in 2024.

Olly Stone made his T20I debut for England against Pakistan in Karachi on September 25, 2022, in the fourth T20I of England’s tour of Pakistan. In his only T20I appearance as of October 2024, Stone had a forgettable debut. He went wicketless with the ball in his four-over spell and was dismissed for a golden duck by Haris Rauf.

Olly Stone was appointed as the stand-in captain of the England Under-19s for a youth Test series against South Africa in England Under-19s tour of South Africa in 2013. He replaced Shiv Thakor and drew the series by a margin of 1-1.

Olly Stone featured for the England Under-19s in their tour to South Africa to face the South Africa Under-19s in 2013. He was the leading wicket-taker of the youth Test series with 17 wickets across the two youth Tests at an average of a mere 9.88.
In that series, Stone also recorded the best match figures by an Englishman in a youth Test, surpassing the previously held record by Richard Pearson in 1991. He returned with match figures of 11/79 in the second youth Test held in Paarl.
Stone was awarded the ‘Player of the Series’ for taking 17 wickets and scoring 37 runs with the bat as well.
