Commentary

Thanks a lot for joining us at Sportskeeda as we brought this exciting Test match from Kanpur. It is games like these that prove the format is here to stay. We saw red-ball cricket at its finest as India wrapped this match up inside three days. Day 2 and Day 3 of this match were completely abandoned while we saw very little play on Day 1. Only Day 4 saw complete action, while merely one-and-a-half sessions were required for India to seal the deal on Day 5. We hope you enjoyed the live-action as much as we did bringing it to you. Rohit Sharma (India captain): In life, we all keep moving on. At some stage, we had to start working with different personnel. When Rahul (Dravid) bhai said he wanted to move on, we were disappointed but we had to take the next step. I have played with Gautam Gambhir, and I know the mindset that he has. It was a good game for us. Once we lost two and a half days, we wanted to get them out quickly and then take advantage. We had to try and up the ante when we batted since we wanted as many overs as possible to bowl at them. It is easy to get bundled out for a low score in such situations but we backed ourselves.

Ravichandran Ashwin (Player of the Series): Winning this game was important to us. Everyone did well, and this win was massive given how the WTC table is shaping up at the moment. When we bowled them out yesterday, we were very keen on attacking. The team talk that he gave was inspiring, and we knew that even if we got all out for 230 or so, we would have set the cat amongst the pigeons. With the new ball, you get more bite than you do with the old ball. We have played enough on such surfaces to make these adjustments. I don't use the carrom ball as much here as I do in white-ball cricket.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (Player of the Match): I was only thinking about what I could do better for my team. I focused on how I could have contributed more. Every innings is important to me, and that is how I prepare. In the first innings, Rohit bhai and Gautam sir told me to go and play freely. We had a chat about how we wanted to put up a big score.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (Bangladesh captain): We took six early wickets in the first Test. In both matches, we did not bat well. In these conditions, we need to bat well. If we take a look, all our batters played 30-40 balls. It is important for batters to look to score big runs once they get set. The way Ashwin and Jadeja played in Chennai set us back, but we needed to make plans as a bowling unit. Mominul Haque and Mehidy Hasan Miraz's performances were the positives.

Jasprit Bumrah: It feels really good but I don't think about adjectives. It's really good to get this win as we lost two days. Really special win. So in this you use your experience. You play across India in different series, first class cricket and you get to know of the options you can use on different tracks. This was completely different to what it was in Chennai and quickly you communicate and try to find what to do. I like challenges - when the conditions are not favourable, when the pitch is not favourable. We played a lot of cricket in India so you understand how it works. The SG ball sometimes reverses too. You find options and talk to the senior players. Now I am also in that role where I help others. He (Akash Deep) comes up to me quite a lot and he asks me 'what should I do?' He brings a lot of energy, he has a big heart and he gives his absolute best in the field and whenever he comes in to bowl. I am very happy with the way he is progressing. After the World Cup, we got a bit of a break and then we were preparing for the Test series. We have a long Test season ahead and that is why we got the break. Hopefully, we can sustain.

India beat Bangladesh by seven wickets in this match and will take the series 2-0. This will give the men in blue immense confidence as a lot of people across the world had backed Bangladesh to put up a fight in this series given that they arrived on the back of having handed Pakistan a 2-0 whitewash in their own soil.

However, India showcased why they are nigh on unbeatable in Test cricket, especially at home. The points that they have garnered from this victory will help them immensely in the WTC table, and makes them the prime contenders for the final slated to be held next summer. Bangladesh will be deeply worried by the lack of game sense their players showed in this game.

Two whole days were deemed unfit for play here in Kanpur, and it is disappointing that Bangladesh folded and handed the match to India on a platter inside three days. India were served well by their batters in the first innings when they played with an aggressive intent and brought the game alive with their attack-minded shots.

In the second innings, however, it was their bowlers who ruled the roost and dismantled the Bangladeshi batting lineup for a paltry 146. Jaiswal and Kohli then put up a fine partnership to seal the deal for their team after Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill departed for low scores. Jaiswal, however, got out towards the end.

Bangladesh will return home disappointed with their outing in the Tests, while the rest of the squad prepares for the T20I series coming up. This may have also been the last time we saw Shakib Al Hasan in Test cricket, given the dubious nature of the government's decision-making in allowing him to return to the country to play in the series against South Africa.

Pant does it in style! India will be extremely proud of the way they have beaten Bangladesh inside three days in a Test match where two days of play was were washed out!

17.2 Taijul Islam to Rishabh Pant, FOUR! Pant finishes it off in style and India win by 7 wickets! Two days lost completely to rain, around half of a day washed out on the first day but no problem say Team India. They have made a match out of it and ensured that they get some very crucial points to retain the first position in the WTC table! It was a tossed up delivery on the middle stump, not much foot movement from Pant as he lofts it down the ground. Over mid-on's head and the ball bounces a few times before going into the fence! India have forced a result out of nowhere in this Test and will certainly be mighty proud of their effort!
