Born on December 15, 1996, in Dehri, Bihar, Akash Deep is a bowling all-rounder who bowls right-arm fast-medium pace and bats right-handed. He represents Bengal in the domestic circuit and plays for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The 27-year-old pacer made his Test debut against England in early 2024 and has the rich ability to contribute not only with the ball with his pace and accuracy but also with the bat lower down the order.

Akash Deep has fought many hardships to conquer the heights he has reached today. His hard-fought battles have been rewarded with good numbers with the ball in the domestic circuit.

Akash Deep Domestic Career

Akash Deep made his domestic debut for Bengal against Maharashtra in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2018-19. He had a great start to his career, scoring 13 runs off 11 balls and bagging two wickets at an economy of 5.25.

Deep made his List-A debut for Bengal against Gujarat in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20. He picked up two wickets in his debut match but Bengal lost to Gujarat by a margin of 38 runs. His first-class debut came against Andhra Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2019-20 and he picked up a three-wicket haul in his debut innings. He picked his registered his best figures of 6/60 against Gujarat in January 2020.

Akash Deep IPL Career

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) acquired the services of Akash Deep for INR 20 lakhs in the IPL 2022 mega auction. He made his IPL debut against Punjab Kings in the same season but was expensive in his maiden outing and managed to pick up a solitary wicket of Liam Livingstone.

Though the Bihari speedster has the potential up his sleeve, he has yet to crack the IPL and has not gotten enough opportunities to prove his mettle.

Following his consistent performances within the domestic circuit, Akash Deep made his international debut in a Test against England in early 2024.

Akash Deep made his Test debut for India against England in the fourth Test of England’s tour of India in early 2024. He was the 313th player to represent the Indian team in Tests and impressed in his debut outing. He ran through the top order and picked up a three-wicket haul that included the likes of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Ollie Pope.
