We've seen this surface turn already. It's going to turn a lot more than the first two days and it's only going to get harder to bat on. The cracks have widened up slightly more and it looks a lot more abrasive. The one thing New Zealand did well is use the sweep besides stepping out. If you don't have the sweep in your armory, you have to step out to put the bowlers off their consistent lengths. You can't do it from the crease with the odd one going straight. Commentary

Right. 2-0 it is. A dead rubber to be hosted at the beautiful Wankhede, in front of a crowd which already has a complicated relationship with the skipper. Where do India go from here? How would the dressing room look at Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja and Ashwin after this performance? They were looked upon to lead the way but they have failed. The new-comers, apart from Sundar and Jaiswal, have failed to shine too. How will Gautam Gambhir look at himself after a rare ODI series loss against Sri Lanka and now this? All of it when there's a white-wash to avoid (some words which were even difficult to think of a month ago) and an Australia tour knocking... it's a lot of headaches and not the good type.

For New Zealand, this is the time to enjoy and party. They have achieved something that some of the great teams in the history have failed to. This achievement would rank level with their WTC final win. They are an inspirational bunch because none of this was a fluke or just the hosts being bad. They boxed India out of their home ring, twice, and didn't let them entre back. They'd be researched repeatedly by sports historians back home and the teams that'll visit India after them. Mitchell Santner is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: Not really, felt a bit harder in the second innings. Credit to India for the way they came out. Jaiswal played extremely well. We just wanted to hang in there and hoped one had their name on it. I found the tweak little bit early in the spell but you have continue for your team and the wickets just made me feel better. It's a bit strange for me to be bowling this much but it's great to be contributing for a series win especially in India. We have another game in Mumbai and we have to be prepared for that. Whenever you get Test wickets, you start getting confident. The belief of landing the ball in the same area was all that I tried to do and it came off.

Tom Latham (New Zealand captain): Yeah it's really a special feeling. Proud to be up in this position. It was a whole team effort. Everyone stood up at different time. Yeah it's really specially. When you come over here, you want to compete. We played brilliantly in Bangalore. We wanted to keep our feets on the ground. Mitchell Santner in the first innings was absolutely fantastic. Finally get the break after being around for a long time, credit goes to him. We didn't play that badly in Sri Lanka. We did a lot of good things there. We stuck to our basics here, played the long game. Both surfaces were different and we adapted brilliantly. For us it's was to be positive. We wanted to put ourselves on the frontfoot yesterday. We knew India would come out hot. There was a great middle session. Boys bowled brilliantly. The last three wickets almost took an age but when Southee took the catch, it was something really special.

Rohit Sharma (India captain): Disappointing. It\s not what we expected. But we have to give credit to NZ. They played better than us. They threw certain challenges at us. We failed to respond to challenges. I don't think we batted well enough. Of course, you need 20 wickets to win Tests but we didn't put enough runs on the board. 100 runs behind, we were chasing the game. Continuous pressure from both sides meant we couldn't respond to the challenges. From 200/3, for us to come back to bowl them out for 259 was great from us. It was a pitch where not much was happening, we just didn't bat well enough. Things would've been slightly different had we got a bit closer in the first innings. We want to show up well on Wankhede and win that Test. It's about not focusing too far ahead. It's a collective failure. I am not someone who'd blame the batter or bowlers. We'll come out with a better intent, better ideas and better mindset.

Glenn Phillips: Ahhh, it's indescribable. For us to do it for the first time in history, it's just a remarkable feeling. I mean it's been a long time trying to compete against India in their home conditions. For us to try and learn and adapt and be more positive in spin friendly conditions was very important. I wish I could say it gets easier but you can't comprehend until you come hard. The Indian guys have done a great job here so this makes the achievement really special. At the end of the day, I was just trying to hold on as Santner was touching anything and turned it into gold. I think the intent the top seven slowed was second to none. The way Ash and Jadeja played was a bit normal. The way Jaiswal came out and it feels a bit slow after someone plays an innings like that. The party will be in the team room. First time in our history and it's a proud moment for each one of us.

New Zealand win by 113 runs!

The fielders collide, they share hugs and smiles. It's the regular stuff but it's no regular achievement. They have defeated India in a Test series for the first time ever. India have lost a Test series for the first time since 2012. One of the most difficult challenges in sport has been conquered. And conquered how! By a team without its best batter, led by a bowler who didn't have a fifer before this but now picked two here.

The fortress India has been sieged. Pune now has the same place in recent Test history as Gabba and Headingley. For New Zealand, this bunch are history makers. They can go anywhere around the world and show a photo of this day to say it with chest, "We defeated India in their own den. England came and went, Australia came and went, they took a few wins here and there but we came from that place with a trophy."

Most of these people weren't born the last time New Zealand won a Test in India. Now, their kids will remember them as epochal figures for the Blackcaps.

India showed decent fight in the final innings, but it was the same old story. New Zealand's seniors, Mitchell Santner and Ajaz Patel stood tall while India's Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja, couldn't show more than starts, mistakes and avoidable errors.

The total was always going to be too much. But it would have never reached a stage where India had to chase more than 300 in the final innings. It was the complacency with the ball in the first innings and even more so with the bat in the second innings that allowed New Zealand's plans to come through.

It never felt like New Zealand needed to switch to Plan 'B'. India never quite recovered from losing the toss. Ashwin and Jadeja failed with the ball in the crucial phases and batting was too hurried. Plus, Rohit Sharma's captaincy should get some much deserved criticism because he never really looked switched on.

New Zealand deserve every bit of this success. The batters' feet movement, plans against Ashwin and Jadeja (who, it felt like, they knew would not bowl according to the pitch) were brilliant. They caught India being too confused, too dependent on attacking cricket without much to show for it.

There will be talk of transition, there will be defense about players getting older. But India have not just lost a good game. They have been completely outplayed and India have looked out of sorts. This will need a review. This will need changes to come forth. This is not just a wake-up call, New Zealand have thrown a bucket of cold water on the faces of the hosts, and will take a coveted trophy to show for it.

60.2 Ajaz Patel to Ravindra Jadeja, WICKET! That's the moment and New Zealand have scripted history here. The temptation was there for Jadeja to go for the big sot and he succumbs. A tossed-up delivery from Ajaz Patel, a shade outside off and Jadeja comes dancing down the track trying to heave it over the long-on fence, doesn't get the timing he was after, more from the inside half of the bat and Tim Southee takes the catch at long-on, was close to the boundary cushion but it doesn't matter. New Zealand have done something very very special. This is India's first home Test series loss since 2012.
