Commentary

Well, that's all we have from this contest. With the white-ball leg wrapped up for the start of this year, the focus will shift to the Border Gavaskar Trophy which begins on February 9th. There's plenty to play for there, and we at Sportskeeda will be here to bring you all the buildup for that series. Right then. India register another bilateral series win and do it in some style with a comprehensive victory to seal the series. They were trailing after the first game but stood tall to come up trumps against a difficult opposition. They challenged themselves along the way too, which seems like the new approach that defines this team under Hardik Pandya's leadership. Plenty of boxes ticked for them. Not so much for the Blackcaps.

A very delighted Hardik Pandya receives the trophy from Roger Binny and Jay Shah. The photo opps are one, and he does on to pass it on Prithvi Shaw and the rest of the side as they pose in front of the banner that reads "Champions". They've played like champions today and will be looking to build from stride to stride. Is this the start of the revamp of the Indian T20 side? Perhaps it's a bit too early to tell. Maybe it is, maybe it's not, but one thing's for sure, this brand of cricket is more of what the fans want to see.

Indian captain Hardik Pandya is declared the Player of the Series for his all-round contributions. Here's what he has to say: (On the award) I don't mind it, but there were some performances which were exceptional. Credit goes to the whole support staff and the team. I'm receiving the trophy for the team and I'm happy for the team. I've always tried to read the situation what was required at the time rather than preconceived ideas. I've had to evolve as a player and it has helped me as well. In my captaincy, that's what I look for - keep it simple, do what is required at that time. I have a simple rule with captaincy - if I am going down, I am going down on my decision. I have to take ownership of things. We spoke about having to take challenges. When we played the IPL final I felt the second innings was spicier. If our back is against the wall we want to come out punching. Hopefully when the right time comes we can do it as a group.

No surprises to reveal that Shubman Gill is the Player of the Match. Here is what he has to say: It feels good when you practice and it pays off. I was backing myself to get the big ones. It didn't happen for me against Sri Lanka but I'm happy to contribute and make it big in this series. Everyone has a different technique to hit those sixes. Hardik bhai told me before the series - just play your game. You don't have to do anything different. He kept on backing me and fortunately, it paid off. (Three formats) When you are representing your country, I don't think there is any kind of fatigue. Always a pleasure to play for India in all three formats.

Mitchell Santner (New Zealand captain): It was a little disappointing. It would have been nice to take home the trophy but India were really good. Obviously Gill's in pretty good nick at the moment. Obviously tough if you lose five wickets in the powerplay. In India it can be challenging in the first few overs if it is swinging and doing a bit. Once it flattens out it gets better. But when you lose too many it's hard to catch up. (Looking ahead to the ODI World Cup on these shores later this year) That time of the year there could be a bit of dew around. You have to plan accordingly and I think most teams might bowl first. We saw some pretty good wickets in the ODI series. If we see such wickets in the World Cup it'll be great to be a part of. For us it's just about being able to chip wickets out and restricting teams to 320 on wickets like that.

Rahul Tripathi: Nothing different. I was just looking to keep the same intent and stick to what went well for me in the IPL. I just wanted to stick to the same process. Would definitely be happier if I got some more runs but it was good to contribute. It was an important stage of the innings, so happy to do well. Playing for your country is a responsibility. You need to trust your process. You have to know what the team requires at that moment and also make the most of the Powerplay. That's what Rahul sir and all have been telling me, to keep playing the way I play and go for options I feel like I can take on. Glad I could do that. It was a terrific atmosphere. It's nice to play in front of such a crowd and really happy to win the series.

Right from the toss to the final delivery that was sent down, it was only one team that owned this setting. It was set up to be a cracking decider but the Blackcaps ran into a rampaging Indian outfit that simply couldn't do anything wrong in front of a jampacked crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium. And it was the prodigious Shubman Gill who set it up with a blistering century that saw the hosts rack up a mammoth score on the board.

And then, it ended even before it began for the visitors. Suryakumar Yadav pulled off a ridiculous leaping catch at slip in the first over before pulling off an encore a few overs later. For many, it seemed like an action replay, except it really wasn't. And in between, Arshdeep Singh struck a double-whammy of his own as he got the ball to move around and let it off a string to leave the Blackcaps in tatters.

That was really the order of the day - the New Zealand batters just came and went within no time as though they were in a hurry to head to the airport. Everything that went the fielders' way, stuck, with Suryakumar pulling off another stunning catch by the boundary ropes. The Indians just had a field day with Shivam Mavi enjoying a couple of wickets against his name while Umran Malik also cranked up some serious pace as always.

Only Daryl Mitchell managed some sort of a respectable score but with just two batters entering double-digits, it tells you everything you need to know on a night where one team did nothing wrong and another couldn't do anything right even when they tried. Every move by skipper Hardik Pandya worked a charm and he ended with a four-fer himself. India have wrapped up another series victory at home in emphatic style and this is their biggest win in T20Is, while also being the biggest margin of victory in T20s between two Test nations! Stick around for the presentations...

Oh that is an absolute annihilation! Only one team turned up today and just to put the same into perspective, Shubman Gill has outscored the Blackcaps by 60 runs. India win the series in grand style!

12.1 Umran Malik to Daryl Mitchell, IT'S ALL OVER! India complete an emphatic 168-run victory to clinch the series 2-1! Mitchell is bounced out because of the extra pace of Umran, trying to take on the pull but miscuing it horribly towards deep mid-wicket. Mavi seemed to have misjudged initially but did enough to dive forward and hold on. India have been excellent in the field today and they've recorded their biggest margin of win in T20Is.
