Getting off to a start and getting out - that was the story of the West Indies batsmen in this entire run-chase. It certainly didn't help them that they lost their top three in 11 overs, two of whom have a reputation for playing a long innings. West Indies skipper Nicholas Pooran failed to lead from the front with the bat yet again in the run chase, and the middle-order, too, started to fall like a pack of cards. Keacy Carty looked good for a while, but Shadab Khan, who earlier propelled his side to a total of 269 with the bat coming in at number 7, accounted for him with a ripper of a leg-break, and Mohammad Haris did the rest behind the stumps. Keemo Paul struck a couple of blows and departed soon after. Amidst the chaos, the West Indies number 7, too, was promising to replicate what Shadab did. Akeal Hosein was measured in his approach, but anything that was marginally tossed up was sent packing over the boundary. It was his knock that kept the West Indies in the game even after they were 7 down, and once he was dismissed, falling to another super delivery from Shadab Khan and some more smart work from Haris behind the stumps, it was all but over. Romario Shepherd hang around for a bit and struck a couple of blows, ultimately, he was the last man to fall. Pakistan win the game by 53 runs, and they seal all 30 points in the Super League by virtue of this 3-0 series victory over the West Indies.
Babar Azam, Pakistan skipper: The plans that we made, we executed as a team. Be it bowling, batting, or fielding, we are giving our 100 per cent, and the results are coming in our favour. As a team, the way we played the 2nd match, Nawaz's spell turned the entire match. His spell was vital for us. I think that was the best performance. We had to check our bench strength and also utilize our group of senior players at the same time. We tried different things with different combinations in every department. Improvement is a requirement at all times, there are aspects in which we need to improve. In the three matches, we couldn't quite stitch enough partnerships, we need to utilize the new ball a bit more, there are margins in fielding as well, so there is always a requirement for improvement. We try to learn from our mistakes as a team and rectify them. I try to play positive cricket, believe in myself, play according to the situation, there are different conditions, and I try to absorb the same and plan accordingly. Partnerships are the main thing so that it is easy for a new batsman. Thank you to the Multan crowd, for the way they supported in all three matches.
Nicholas Pooran, West Indies skipper: "The last two games were disappointing for us. We played poorly with the bat. We did well as a team and going forward that will be the template. (Akeal Hosein) He is someone who has been working hard with the ball and with the bat. He tells everyone he is a batsman and well done to him. Really proud of the players to take on the challenge. Imam-ul-Haq, Player Of The Series: It feels nice (to be player of the series), It's about the process, I have been working on the process all this while. I feel pleased to be a part of this bunch of players. I haven't changed much. We didn't play too many ODIs since 2019, so it takes time (to get accustomed). (On his relationship with Babar Azam) It's been 11 years since we've known each other, so we know each other's game quite well, we talk a lot whenever there is pressure, that is of help. (On the run out in the 2nd ODI) Run outs are part and parcel of the game, but this one was his fault. (Chuckles)
Shadab Khan has been named as the 'Man of the Match': "It's tough after an injury, but I have done well in the last two games with both bat and ball. The talk with Khushdil was to take it as deep as possible. Glad that we were able to execute that. I bowled better in the first two games than today. Hopefully I'll be able to improve."
Two balls into the spell, and Hasan Ali completes the final rites! West Indies fought and fought, they went down fighting, and Pakistan have a 3-0 series win! Their second successive ODI clean sweep at home! Every single one of their departments stepped up on specific occasions and did their job to perfection; they chased down 306 in the first game on a dicey wicket thanks to their skipper and the rest of their top-order, their spinners helped snatch the game from the West Indies and take the series in the previous game, and today, it was a Shadab Khan show, both with the bat and the ball, which has helped them land the clean-sweep!
