So, that will be all from this, the first game of the season at the Perth Stadium. Join us again tomorrow as we bring you all the action from yet another cracker of a game taking place in Melbourne! For now, this is the pair of Rudransh and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Adam Voges (Perth Scorchers coach): We were pretty good all around, barring that Chris Jordan spectacle! But, as we know over here, if we keep wickets in hand and build a partnership, batting gets pretty easy. Jason Behrendorff bowled a beautiful length and got it to swing. And, he did that consistently. I'm not surprised that returned with such good figures. Ashton Turner has aggravated the injury to his knee. Not sure when he will be able to return but we are hopeful that he will continue to play for us sometime later this season. Zak Crawley and his style of batting will enjoy these conditions, I'm sure about that! He is really confident of playing his shots and that helps. We leaked 63 runs off the last 5 overs, so, that needs some fixing, all be it that we lost our captain at that stage. We are really thankful that we can play around this time of the year at home! The crowd does get involved here and love our players, which is just fantastic!
Jason Behrendorff is the Player of the Match and here's what he has to say: We love playing here. It's a good wicket. You bowl well, you get wickets and if you swing across, you get some runs too. He (Jordan) was full of confidence, credit to him. We found it a bit difficult to bowl to him. Crawley did well for the title of the 'King of Bazball', it's generally difficult for overseas players to come in and bat here with the bounce but he did well. The World Cup is in the back of my mind but I am just focussing on my strengths.
Perth Scorchers win by 9 wickets with 22 balls to spare!
Aaron Hardie 86* (45) | Jason Behrendorff - 4/25 (4) Chris Jordan - 59 (20) and 1/25 (3)
Chris Jordan's flurry towards the end of the first innings gave Hobart Hurricanes the much needed impetus, as well as, runs, to compete in the second innings. Chasing anything over 170 in these conditions was not going to be easy. The first wicket of Cooper Connolly suggested that too. But, the rest was well taken care of by the unbeaten 157-run second wicket partnership!
Zak Crawley, on Perth Scorchers debut, and Aaron Hardie, put on an absolute show in front of an exuberant home crowd and knocked the runs off in the 17th over itself!
While Crawley played some really confident shots in front of the wicket off the front foot and on the up, Hardie was severe on anything ever so slightly short on either side of the wicket, off the back foot!
The Englishman struck 6 fours and 1 six while the Western Australian smashed 4 fours and 5 sixes along the way, to reach their respective half-centuries.
For the Hurricanes, the left-arm spin of Patrick Dooley worked for his first three overs, but, the final one cost his side as many as 26 runs to very much seal the deal! Hardie got stuck into him and tore him apart with four sixes.
Otherwise, it was a sorry-looking bowling card for the visitors who found it slightly confusing to figure out the right length to bowl in this wicket which should have assisted them.
As a result, the Scorchers pick up their second straight win of the season while the Hurricanes waste a Chris Jordan-epic with the bat and suffer their second consecutive loss.
16.2 Nathan Ellis to Aaron Hardie, THAT'S IT! Good length ball on the middle, Hardie pulls it to deep square leg for one. Perth Scorchers' dominance continues with a massive nine-wicket win over the Hurricanes!
Scores are level.
16.2 Nathan Ellis to Aaron Hardie, WIDE! Good length ball, keeps going down the leg. Hardie is dissapointed to miss the pull.
16.1 Nathan Ellis to Aaron Hardie, FOUR! ALMOST THE PERFECT FINISH! Full outside off, Hardie stays still and goes inside out over covers but the ball falls just short of the boundary!
So, the Hurricanes manage to take this game to the next over! But, with only 6 runs left, it should not go into another one, going by the way things have gone with the bat up to now.
