Rovman Powell (West Indies captain): Really impressive win tonight! First of all, the bowling was top notch. Roston Chase, as always, was superb and the others followed up nicely. Shai Hope is a quality batter. Slightly sad that we had to leave him out for the England game due to combinations, but when he does get that opportunity, he shows one and all what he is capable of! South Africa always play good cricket, they are playing really good cricket, so it will be a tough contest on Sunday. But we will be up for it. We want to come back here in Barbados on the 29th and give these fans a special day!
Aaron Jones (United States of America captain): Tough night for the boys! For the West Indies on that wicket, I think a target of 175-180 would have been nice. We tried our best to bat well, but the execution of the plans weren't quite there. We gave it our all with the ball too but it's just one of those days! We will turn it around and come back strong on Sunday, surely.
Roston Chase is the Player of the Match: Obviously, my best figures. Great feeling to do it at home, in front of my family and friends. It's something we talked about before the match that if the opposition gets a good start in the powerplay, it's the spinners' job to get us back in the game. I worked very hard for it and it worked out. (On his catch) I was not having a good day, even got late for the team bus. But I love fielding at point, it gets me going. This is my favorite place to play. It's a beautiful stadium. They always cheer for us. (On South Africa game being a potential decider) It's our destiny. As convincing as it can get for the West Indies! Not even 11 overs were required to chase the runs down and we were treated to some stunning shots from all three batters on show!
Shai Hope, who has replaced the injured Brandon King, stole the show with his 39-ball unbeaten 82! Glittered with 4 fours and 8 sixes, he knocked the wind out of the USA sails! Johnson Charles struck a couple of boundaries himself and finally, Nicholas Pooran finished it off with 27 runs, striking at 225 runs per 100 balls!
USA had no answer to the onslaught. Just no answer! They tried their best. They gave it their all, but were a comfortable second tonight, with the West Indies pounding them in the second innings. There were many who thought that this was their best chance of winning in this leg of the tournament, but the Rovman Powell-led team made a clear-cut statement that they were not to be taken lightly!
By virtue of this win, the Men in Maroon pick up their first points in the group and with a net run rate of 1.81, assure themselves a place in the semi-finals without having to depend on other results, should they win against South Africa!
As for the USA, they are knocked out of the race of reaching the semi-finals, barring the mathematics. They have one match left. That is against England, who themselves have to win without fail. So, it presents Aaron Jones' side a chance of using that pressure to their advantage and staging another upset to maybe, end the campaign on a high, or, quite incredibly, go through to the final four, with help from the Proteas!
