The BBL season 12 is set to get underway on December 17 as Glenn Maxwell-led Melbourne Stars take on Sydney Thunder in the tournament opener at the Manuka Oval in Canberra.
Bowling in the bounce and movement favored conditions like Australia is testing for an exceptional bowler and picking wickets in a T20 game Down Under isn’t a cakewalk. There are a few bowlers who have been consistent for their teams with the ball season after season.
Perth Scorchers pacer Andrew Tye, who has claimed 118 dismissals in 85 BBL matches in eight seasons so far, is the only bowler to have picked two hat-tricks in the history of the tournament. Tye registered his first hat-trick against Brisbane Heat in the BBL 2016-17 season. His dismissals included Jack Wildermuth, Mark Steketee and Mitchell Swepson.
Sydney Sixers pace bowler Sean Abbott is the highest wicket-taker in the Big Bash League (BBL) as of December 2022 with 125 wickets in 94 matches. Tye is seven wickets short of Abbott’s tally and the two fiery pacers will be the strike bowlers of their respective teams in the upcoming season.

Interestingly, Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan is the only overseas bowler to feature in the list of top 10 wicket-takers in BBL. Former Sri Lanka T20I skipper Lasith Malinga holds the best bowling figures (6/7) against Perth Scorchers in BBL 2012-13.
