That brings us to the end of another BBL encounter. Like always it was a pleasure bringing all the live coverage from this encounter. Till the next time this is the pair of Arya Sekhar Chakraborty and Keshav Singh Chundawat signing off.
Hobart Hurricanes won by 6 wickets (with 19 deliveries to spare)
Tim David 68*(38) | Riley Meredith 2/30(4) David Warner 88*(66) | George Garton 2/31(3)
It turned out to be a pretty straightforward run chase for the Hobart Hurricanes as they won the game by 6 wickets and with 19 deliveries to spare. Tim David continued his rich vein of form and scored his second consecutive BBL fifty to take the Hurricanes over the finish line. The score of 164 didn't look enough at the halfway stage but the Sydney Thunder bowlers did have some score to play with.
However when Mitchell Owen and Matthew Wade came out all guns blazing, it seemed that the match would get over rather quickly. Owen and Wade smashed three sixes in the first two overs but both batters departed in quick succession to reduce them to 32/2. Charlie Wakim and Nikhil Chaudhary joined hands and shared a good partnership.
They continued the positive approach in the powerplay but the spin duo of Tom Andrews and Chris Green put the brakes on the Hurricanes batters in the middle overs. The boundaries dried up and there was a string of dot deliveries which eventually brought about the downfall of Wakim. Nikhil Chaudhary looked in complete command of proceedings and was joined by Tim David and the duo steadied the ship beautifully.
Chaudhary was dismissed in the 13th over but David was still out there and turned the complexion of the game within a blink of an eye in the two Power Surge overs. David remained unbeaten on 68 off 38 deliveries which included four fours and six sixes. It was a massive blow over square leg which eventually sealed the deal for the Hurricanes. George Garton was the pick of the bowlers for the Thunder, finishing with figures of 2/31.
Tim David: It's always nice when you hit those sixes, so pretty with that result. When we bat at night, the ball comes really well. Wasn't feeling good on my first 15 balls again but then thankfully got going as a storm. It's good doing the job for the team. I was trying to hit the ball in the ground, which I haven't done for a long time. I did score more runs doing it. Probably, hitting in the Power Surge has taken some stress off me. Taking that first risk is tough and so when you look up and only a couple of fielders are out there in the deep. I practice six-hitting outside match and it's nice when I have had the right to have a swing. Top for lads as that's the place we haven't been in the last few years because we know we are good enough to be there. It's a reward for whatever we have done in this season. We have got three more games to go, so let's try and lock in the home final and keep pushing on from there.
