Thanks a lot for joining us here at Sportskeeda for this exciting game of cricket. After two innnings of play, both Sri Lanka and India were stuck on the same score of 230, which resulted in an enthralling tied encounter. This is just the second time these two teams have tied against each other in ODIs. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did bringing it to you. Until next time, ciao!
Charith Asalanka (Sri Lanka captain): I thought that 230 was enough but we should have done better to restrict them to less than that score. I don't think the surface changed that much. However, in the first session, when we were batting in the afternoon, it turned a lot but when the lights came on, I think it became easier to bat on. I brought myself on as the left-hander came out to bat. I am really happy about the energy on the field and the way the boys played in the second innings. Nissanka and Dunith batted really well.
Rohit Sharma (India captain): We batted well in patches but did not have any sort of momentum. We had the upper hand to start with but then we lost a couple of wickets and fell back. With the partnership that KL and Axar had, we came back into the game. To be fair, Sri Lanka too played well. In the end, it was disappointing that we could not score 1 run off 14 deliveries. I think it got a little easier to bat in the second innings. We had to apply ourselves; I am proud of the way we fought till the end. We should have got that one run.
Dunith Wellalage is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: I came with the plan, wicket was turning a bit and spinners were good. Me and Janith wanted to build a partnership. Even with Hasaranga I had a good partnership. Wicket was slower, we targeted 220 and got 10 runs more. Wicket was good in the second half, skipper and Hasaranga turned the game around.
Wow! What a game of cricket we had here. Shivam Dube had to struggle a tad towards the end, but he managed to take India to a tie by losing his wicket in a rather sad manner as fast bowler Mohammed Siraj stood watching at the other end.
The top-order batters of India all got off to decent starts but somehow threw their wickets away after getting settled. Although Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill got their team off to a good start, they could not quite carry it forward.
Virat Kohli too got off to a good start but failed to carry it ahead and lead his team to victory; it was left to Shivam Dube to do so. Axar Patel and KL Rahul batted well in the middle overs but they too could not quite apply the finishing touches to this game.
This is something that the Indians will be keen on improving in their next game and hope that they are able to pull off a win. Shivam Dube and Arshdeep Singh got out lbw to Charith Asalanka off the last two deliveries of the match to hand a tie to the Lankans.
Arshdeep, at least, could have been a tad more sensible and tried to rotate the strike instead of going for a big one. Dube too was expected to bat well till the end, but he could not take his team to victory. The Lankans will feel that a tie is as good as a victory for them given the sort of situation that they were in when Rohit and Gill were batting.
And Arshdeep is gone! We will have a tie.
Arshdeep goes for a big swing and misses! This seems as plumb as houses, but Arshdeep reviews anyways. He could have just tried to tuck this one around the corner for a single instead of going for a big shot.
47.5 Charith Asalanka to Arshdeep Singh, OUT! MASSIVE SHOUTS FOR LBW AND GIVEN! But India review it, that looked plumb the moment it struck Arshdeep. Length delivery on the stumps, angled in. Arshdeep goes with the wild slog sweep and misses, pings on the back thigh.
UltraEdge confirms clear gap between bat and ball. THREE REDS on ball tracking! And it's a TIE, but got to give credit to Sri Lanka for the way they clawed their way back into the contest. India will feel, they threw away at the end!
Arshdeep Singh lbw b Charith Asalanka 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)
Arshdeep Singh, LHB, is the last batter for India.
Asalanka takes the review as a last resort! The wickets come as hitting in the replay, and the crowd at the R Premadasa Stadium erupts in joy! India now need 1 runs to win with one wicket in hand.
