That will be all as we draw curtains to our coverage of this Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka game! For now, it will be Soumarya Dutta taking your leave on behalf of Bidipto Datta. Buh-bye and see you soon!
The Bangladesh Team are being handed over the trophy now and the celebrations will begin in their camp! This has been a fantastic effort from them and it's only their second ODI series win against the Sri Lankans.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh Captain and Player of the series - The way Tanzid played it helped us at the start. He should have finished it off as well but he will learn with time. Mushfiqur Rahim also played really well. The bowlers were excellent and they made the job much easier. In the last series, we won one game against New Zealand but we bounced back well in this one and managed to win the series.
Rishad Hossain is the Player of the Match! Here is what he has to say.
Rishad: (First thoughts) Initially, I was a bit tense, but then after playing some shots, I just kept hitting and connecting. (On what Mushfiqur Rahim told him) Mushfiqur bhai told me to keep going and not stop, if it's there to hit, just go after the ball. And that's what I did!
Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka captain): I think we were 40-50 runs short but the bowlers did well to almost pull off a big victory. (On Janith Liyanage) Yes, Janith batted really well, really well! Very happy for him. (On Lahiru Kumara) Lahiru Kumara had three impressive overs through the middle which almost turned the game on its head. But, not to be in the end!
Stay tuned for the Post Match and Post Series presentation!
Bangladesh 237/6 in 40.2 overs Tanzid Hasan 84 (81) | Lahiru Kumara 4/48 Rishad Hossain 48*(18) | Wanindu Hasaranga 2/64
A star is born here in Chittagong today and it's the 22 year old Rishad Hossain who has steered his side to a series win on the back of the most outrageous knock one could have thought of. It was a surface where the batter struggled and Bangladesh were in a precarious position when the lost Mehidy Hasan with 58 runs still remaining and four wickets in the hut. Hossain though had other ideas and brought out an absolute Blitzkrieg as he scored an unbeaten 48 from just 18 balls. Five fours and four sixes came in that innings and he took Bangladesh past the finish line in just the blink of an eye.
Bangladesh got off to a great start thanks to the concussion sub Tanzid, who went all guns blazing in the powerplay. He targeted Pramod Madhushan from one end and forced Mendis to replace him in the attack with Kumara. The latter was also taken to the cleaners in his first couple of overs but he bounced back remarkably as he picked up two quick wickets. Bangladesh threw away the early initiative post the powerplay as their skipper Shanto and Bijoy were both back in the hut!
Tanzid Tamim continued with his aggressive approach and he got some support from Towhid Hridoy. The partnership was broken again by Lahiru Kumara who came back into the attack to pick up the wickets of Hridoy and Mahmadullah. This was followed by the wicket of Tamim who was dismissed by Hasaranga for a well made 84 and the chips were really down for Bangladesh at that stage as they had lost half their side. Mehidy and Mushfiqur steadied the ship with a 48 run partnership which was broken by Hasaranga. From there onwards though, it was all about Rishad Hossain as Bangladesh romped home with almost 10 overs to spare.
The Sri Lankan bowlers tried hard to make a game of it and they kept Bangladesh under pressure for large parts of the contests. Lahiru Kumara was the pick of the bowlers as he bowled with some real pace and exposed the technical flaws of the batters in the Bangladesh top order. Hasaranga was weaving his magic as well as he picked up two wickets but he took some real beating courtesy that onslaught from Rishad Hossain and he gave away 64 runs in the end from his 9 overs.
Absolute scenes here at CHATTOGRAM!! Bangladesh have come back from behind and have clinched this ODI series 2-1! They were down and out after the T20I series but they've given it back in the One Day series. Bangladesh win by 4 wickets and take the series.
40.2 Maheesh Theekshana to Mushfiqur Rahim, FOUR RUNS! THAT IS BOTH THE MATCH AND THE SERIES TO BANGLADESH! Full and flat around off-stump. The experienced Mushfiqur leaned into the stroke and opened the bat face to glide it down to the left of short third man for a boundary to end matters then and there!
40.1 Maheesh Theekshana to Mushfiqur Rahim, full on middle-stump. Defended back to the bowler off the front foot.
