4:40 pm local time (8:10 pm IST): So the Sunrisers win their final game at home with a bonus point and head into the Eliminator with much needed momentum. The Royals will stay here and play their qualifier game on Wednesday at St. George's Park, hoping to win it and seal a final berth. But for now, the action heads to the Wanderers as the Super Kings take on the Super Giants. The first ball will be bowled at 5:30 pm local time (9:00 pm IST). You can catch the action of that game right here! This is the pair of Karthik Raj and Bidipto taking your leave. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Aiden Markram (Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain): We've played well today! Our batting hasn't clicked well. We wanted to try out Jordan Hermann today, because we did not want to miss out on the chance of a proper batter batting. He came up trumps. The bowling unit is finding ways to take wickets, we will let them keep doing their thing and as batters, pull up our socks! As for this magnificent home crowd, I hope we will go on to win this time round again, and come back to you next year as defending champions!
Bjorn Fortuin (Paarl Royals captain): We just thought that it would be fair to give the other guys some opportunity. Also, we know that there is a possibility of playing two games before the final, so, we wanted to rest some players. Regardless of whether the game matters or not, we need to improve the standards. Not the best game we wanted to play, but hopefully, we get it right come Tuesday here. David Miller is expected to join our camp tomorrow.
Jordan Hermann (Player of the Match): "(On his poor form leading up to this game) Yeah, it was a pretty dark space early on. Glad to contribute to the team again. I was batting well in the nets and coming into the season in domestic cricket. There were lots of changes in the team, so always felt if I get an opportunity, I can take it. It is the best crowd in the country if not the world. Hopefully, we can give something back later on in the competition."
Jordan Hermann has been named as the 'Player of the Match'
Time for the Post-match Presentation!
4:22 pm local time (7:52 pm IST): Sunrisers Eastern Cape win by 48 runs with 10 balls to spare!
Jordan Hermann 53 (38) | Craig Overton - 3/15 (4) Rubin Hermann 35 (39) | Bjorn Fortuin - 2/20 (4)
If you thought that 149 would be an easy target to reach, you will surely be in for a shock! Because Sunrisers Eastern Cape managed to defend it in some style, bowling Paarl Royals out for just three figures with balls left!
It all started up front, with a new-look Royals batting line-up crumbling against the new-ball attack of Craig Overton and Marco Jansen. Inside 4 overs, the visitors were reduced to 22/5!
After that, a 49-ball partnership between Rubin Hermann and Andile Phehlukwayo tried resurrecting things for the men in pink. But the home side's skipper Aiden Markram stalled its progress, trapping Phehlukwayo in front. Since then, another recovery never happened!
The moment of the match came when Overton took an absolute stunner of a catch at long-on, leaping in the air and catching the ball near the rope with his right hand! Rubin Hermann thought that he had done enough to clear him, but that was not to be!
Jansen has now become the highest wicket-taker of the season with 13 scalps and the home crowd have been treated to yet another spectacular performance with the ball and in the field by their beloved Sunrisers, heading into the Eliminator.
But the men in orange will play their knockout game in Centurion while the Royals will play here again in the first qualifier. So both sides had something to take away from this one!
18.2 Richard Gleeson to Lungi Ngidi, SEC WRAP IT UP! A SUPERB WIN TO SEAL THEIR FINAL LEAGUE GAME! Length delivery angling in, Ngidi tries to lift it over extra-cover but he mis-times it. Tom Abell back-tracks and takes a simple catch as SEC wrap up a 48-run victory!
Lungi Ngidi c Tom Abell b Richard Gleeson 3 (6b, 0x4, 0x6)
That is a superb piece of athleticism from Markram!
18.1 Richard Gleeson to Mujeeb Ur Rahman, GREAT EFFORT FROM AIDEN MARKRAM! Length delivery angling in, Mujeeb clears his front-leg and swipes it well in front of long-on where Aiden Markram runs in and dives valiantly. Single taken.
