Commentary

That was an authoritative performance from the Trinbago Knight Riders as they brushed aside the Barbados Royals by 42 runs. Powered by a Nicky P special, TKR got back to winning ways and has climbed to the 2nd spot in the points table. Barbados Royals have a lot to ponder on. Both teams will get a couple of days off which might help them recover in time for the business end of the tournament. We have lots of cricketing action lined up throughout the day. Do not forget to tune in but for now, this is myself (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) bidding a goodbye. Ta-ta!

Kieron Pollard (Trinbago Knight Riders captain): It was a great all-round effort. Overall good team performance, much better than last night. It's a matter of laying the foundation for the guys coming in. You know scoring all those runs in the last 5 overs gave us the momentum. Pooran batted really well. It was a different Nicholas when he came into bat. We would love that to happen on a consistent basis. He is a chinaman bowler (on Waqar Salamkheil), the Caribbean players are sometimes susceptible to spin bowling. We have been hearing a lot of things and taking it as a motivation. Again nothing different. It has been two hard day's travel. The guys will go back to recovery mode. The guys who haven't played might have a small session. This is the business end and this is where you start to get niggles. It will be important for us to keep the players fresh and ready.

Rovman Powell (Barbados Royals captain): I think 210 was always going to be a difficult chase. We would have backed ourselves to chase 185-190 but we ended up conceding 15-20 runs extra. They played a very good game. Kyle Mayers seems to be in form. Young Qais Ahmad bowled well but we still have some work to do

Nicholas Pooran (Player of the Match): I am happy that I could perform again. A couple of low scores doesn't mean I am out of form. I was dismissed cheaply in the last two games. Thanks to Polly. It's all about responsibility. We bat together really well. There was a miscommunication but that happens in cricket. Everything happens for a reason and it worked for us. It's consistency both on and off the field. I knew I wanted to perform in front of my home crowd. It was all about throwing the ego away and analysing what is working for you. I am happy that I could contribute to the team's win today.

The mammoth score of 208 proved to be more than enough in the end as the Trinbago Knight Riders returned to winning ways by defeating the Barbados Royals by 42 runs to give themselves a realistic chance of going through to the playoffs. The win has also given him the opportunity to finish in the top two. Once Rakheem Cornwall was dismissed early by Akeal Hosein, it was always going to be an uphill task for the Royals.

Kyle Mayers took his time initially but gained confidence as he spent more time in the middle. Laurie Evans shared a good stand with Mayers but the duo couldn't quite score at the rate they required at that stage as the Royals were well behind the eight ball. Waqar Salamkheil was the star performer with the ball, bagging two crucial wickets and breaking the backbone of the Royals.

There were some partnerships in the middle but it didn't look too good for them. Mayers went on to score 70 off 45 deliveries which included 7 fours and 4 sixes. However it wasn't enough to take his side close to the finish line. Akeal Hosein and Salamkheil were the pick of the bowlers for TKR, bagging a couple each.
