There's been some rain but the weather is good at the moment. One side of the square is 36 feet longer than the other. A fresh deck with a lot of grass cover has been dished out today. Very, very hard and so it will skid on nicely. It won't all be about the bowling group - the batters will enjoy the surface as well as the dimensions and the breeze. There should be a bit of seam movement too though. The average score has been 163 but the team batting first will need more than that.

Steve Smith (captain, Washington Freedom): Excellent to finish on the top, it is good to have two bites at the cherry. Credit to ourselves for the win. The bowlers did well to restrict them to 145, Maxwell played really well and Travis Head has been unbelievable as well. He has got really good bat speed, we saw today he was swinging it hard and it was flying away. He finds himself in good positions. Hopefully another big knock loading for him

Corey Anderson (captain, San Francisco Unicorns): It is always tough when you lose 4 wickets early one. We were 20-30 runs short. We were often found searching, Head was doing well and Maxi was hitting them long. The way they play, they hit the ball hard. When you take risks, it pays off sometimes but it doesn't and today was one such case. It is all about picking up yourself and coming back strong

Travis Head is the Player of the Match: Batting in the powerplay has been nice. Was stuck in the fifties so nice to get a big knock and get the side over the finish line. My job is to provide the best start, as fast as I can. I try and go as hard as I can as I have been given that role. It swung a little bit today. Trying to have a clear mind and give myself the best chance. It's about doing my thing. It might sound simple, I have good faith in my abilities.

Rachin Ravindra: Yeah it was good. Smudge trusted me. The boys bowled brilliantly which helped me towards the end. It's all the process. I am understanding the role as the sixth bowler and it's about preparing as well as you can. It's always nice to contribute. Couldn't quite get the runs. It's good for the team to do a job at the top four and chipping in with the wickets. The great thing about franchise cricket is soaking it all in and learn from the coaches and the other players. Learning from these guys are great. I am still learning on the role. It's great to have guys around you who have done the role before. It's about learning from those guys. Looking at each experience and not letting it go and it will help me grow as a cricketer and perform even better if I go back to opening at any stage.

Washington Freedom beat San Francisco Unicorns by 7 wickets and advance to the finals

Fine chase from Washington Freedom. They had a start that was slow according to their standards but then picked up pace, to ensure that they have a couple of days rest before they play the all-important game on Sunday.

They had a shaky start, losing their captain Steve Smith early on in the innings. He was joined by Andries Gous in the middle and while both stitched a valuable partnership, it was Head who the aggressor. Gous looked to go big but holed out deep midwicket. Head was then joined by Rachin in the middle, but the young Kiwi couldn't replicate his performance with the ball in hand with the willow.

Head took the onus on himself and sped the scoring. He breached his 50 and then went all out against the Unicorns' bowling attack. Runs came off the bat, sometimes off the middle, sometimes off the edge. He decided the course of the game in the over against Corey Anderson where he smashed the all-rounder for consecutive boundaries off three deliveries. At the other end, Maxwell went after spin like a raging bull and picked up maximums whenever possible. Maxwell ended the game in style, smashing Rauf for 4,6 and 4 in the last three deliveries, winning the game with 4 and a half overs to spare.

San Francisco Unicorns have themselves to blame. After failing to put up a substantial total, they were subpar with the ball in hand. Hassan Khan picked up 2 wickets, backing up his 50 with the bat earlier. Pat Cummins was the only other bowler who managed to pick up a wicket as the other bowlers were carted away to the fence. They will now be facing Texas Super Kings tomorrow and will look to come out on top in that contest.

15.3 Haris Rauf to Glenn Maxwell, FOUR! Game set and match for the Washington Freedom. Another back of a length delivery around off, Maxwell backs away and slams it away towards the widish long-on boundary. Washington Freedom directly qualify for the final.

15.2 Haris Rauf to Glenn Maxwell, SIX! This is disdainful from Maxwell. Rauf again bangs it in short, Maxwell gets into position early and absolutely swats that away from his presence, lands on the boundary cushions near deep midwicket.

Haris Rauf (2-0-17-0) comes back into the attack. He will be bowling to Glenn Maxwell on strike

Hassan Khan had a good game before Glenn Maxwell took him to the cleaners. Khan has conceded 4 sixes in this game off two overs against Maxwell, with the Victorian making a big dent into Khan's figures. Washington only a stones throw away from winning this contest as they need 11 runs to win in 30 balls
