Commentary

What a brilliant game of cricket. You'd feel MINY were way ahead and should have won it after how the first quarter of it went. But the Unicorns didn't stop fighting and in turn found new heroes which would have boosted their confidence. They might be a scary team to play in the Playoffs in this form. But for now, it's the pair of Rudransh and Probuddha signing off for Sportskeeda!

Corey Anderson (San Fransisco Unicorns captain and the MVP): Pretty happy. I was in the bush a little bit. We batted deep and Hasan Khan did really well. We have an excellent bowling attack and hopefully, we made it easier for them. You still have to pick your match-ups and find boundaries. There's not much point in a small total. We went ahead of the game a bit so focussed on twos. I thought we were definitely under-par. I just asked the guys to fight. Sometimes games like this stretch out. I am extremely proud of the way the boys fought. They are a quality side, with quality bowlers. Our top-order has been firing brilliantly, which flipped today. Hopefully, there comes a game where all of us fire together.

Kieron Pollard (MI New York Captain): I think in the middle period we did not get enough runs and that is where the game slipped. The bowlers did a good job up top but Corey and Hassan got a partnership going and took the game away from us. We wanted to put the foot on the throat but it did not happen. Today was sort of how this season has gone for us - giving ourselves a chance but not getting it done. In the entire tournament, the batting has not worked well for us. We have not been able to fight well and put up big totals. Rashid finished off a couple of games but overall, from a batting perspective, we have not done great, and I personally, like today, I had a job to do, but I could not do it. There is another game to go, so have to finish well. Pride, reputation and passion is something we play for and let's see how it goes.

Matt Short (San Francisco Unicorns): It is a huge win. They are a quality side. It was a strange game but credit to the bowler. Credit to Corey Anderson and Hassan Khan to get that partnership going and put on a good total for us. Yes just saw that he was hitting the full ball and so shortened the length and it worked (Pooran dismissal). Lucky with a couple tonight. Our top order has done a good job barring this match. There have been quite a few partnerships and that has helped us.

What a match! Young Richards did so many things right but wouldn't he worry about that last shot? It was straight and in the slot but he went for a reverse paddle and barely touched the ball.

MI New York's misery continues to pile on. They came so close to a great win here but it's once again on the seniors, the selection choices, and the decision-making on the field from most of the players in that 11 which has cost them these points and almost certainly a place in the Playoffs.

The Unicorns have now become the second team to qualify for the playoffs! They got here thanks to that Anderson-Khan partnership in the first innings. The score was just about competitive and MI New York just didn't go after it strongly enough except Brevis who was both brave and brilliant.

Short got the first breakthrough and he and Couch bowled in all phases to take four crucial breakthroughs. Pollard went early and Pooran conceded a ton of dots, building fatal pressure on Brevis before getting out himself. Rashid and Richards put up a brilliant fight at the end by making a 20-run final-over chase come close but it was just not enough.
