That brings us to the close of the first T20 encounter between Australia and West Indies. The Aussies have taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match series and the action will now move on to Adelaide for the second match on Sunday. It just ended up being a bit too much for the West Indies who made a good match out of this on a belter of a track in Hobart. They have fallen short by 11 runs but will be definitely taking a few positives out of the game.

Set 214 to chase, the Windies openers got off to a flyer as their openers took them to 72/0 at the end of the powerplay. Johnson Charles and Brandon King were really good before the former was removed by Adam Zampa on 42 in the 9th over. King went on to score a fifty but could not get the big score which his team needed. The Aussies kept on taking wickets throughout the middle overs as most of the batters from West Indies ended up holing out on the boundary line. Marcus Stoinis was brilliant with the ball as he got 2/20 in his 3 overs but it was Adam Zampa who proved to be the eventual difference between the two teams. He removed Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran in his final over to end up with 3/26 putting his team right on top. Even though Holder provided a late flourish to the innings with 33* off 14 but it was too little too late for West Indies.

Earlier in the piece, it was the Aussie batters who put up a brilliant 213 on the board with the help of a brilliant 70 from David Warner, a brisk 39 from Jos Inglis and a very crucial knock of 37* in the end overs by Tim David. The first half of the Aussie innings was completely doimnated by them as they got to 129/1 in 12 overs but the West Indies pegged them back reducing them to 159/5 in 16 with some clever bowling from the likes of Russell, Joseph and Shepherd.. They could have restricted the Aussies to a bit less but things got away from in the end with Tim David and Matthew Wade making handy contributions.

Matthew Wade comes up to the presentation ceremony as Mitchell Marsh is COVID +ve - Mitch is just waiting for a couple of more negative tests. They are a really good T20 team. I thought we just had enough on the board. We were looking to go over 2202 at a stage when we were a 100 odd for 1 with the luxury of the 7 batters that we have. It was very good to see Tim come out and whack it around the way he did. Zamap is a really class bowler, you can always bank on his 4 overs. I'm sure the captain is very happy to have him and he will play a crucial role going into the T20 World Cup.

Rovman Powell (West Indies captain) - Struggled to get partnerships in the middle overs, but it was a very good game. We just have to back ourselves a bit more, a lot of shots could have definitely gone for boundaries but we lost our way in the middle overs. I definitely thought of bringing myself into the attack but when there are good batters in the middle on a flat pitch like this, so I went to my strike bowlers after a wicket. It is a bit cold for us here, but we really enjoyed it, the crowd was nice.

David Warner is the Player of the Match! Here's what he has to say: It's just pleasing to get the win on the board, obviously it was quite clear that it was a good wicket to bat on, you don't want to miss out on that. It's great, I feel refreshed, guys have told me settle down, I want to play the T20 World Cup and finish there, I'm excited and it's a good little journey that we've got going for the next 6 months. You saw the squad going to New Zealand, that's the squad mostly we will take to World Cup, but we got to finish off the series well still here.

Adam Zampa: Almost a perfect game, put on a good total, if anything we left a few out there, but we knew, they would come hard in the powerplay to try and make things easier at the backend, we stuck to through in the middle overs, Stoinis bowled well and finished well. Dangerous team with a lot of power, ability to keep taking wickets was important, they are a good side as they bat deep. Adaptibility, try and reach match situations. We always love playing together, coming from the ODI group which had young folks.
