Well, that wraps up this high octane clash. Can expect many of such thrillers in the 5th edition of the Lanka Premier League. This is Dwaipayan Mukherjee, signing off with my co-commentator Arya!
Wanindu Hasaranga, Kandy Falcons Captain : Credit goes to our batters, specially Chandimal who batted really well and Shanaka who put up an amazing all-round show. We all know that Angelo Matthews is one of the best finishers in the country. The wicket played great in the opening few overs. We bowled a few no balls, that's something we need to see next game. That's a good sign, we should play young players in this kind of tournament. Good sign for Sri Lanka and good for our youngsters. Happy to get this win.
Mohammed Nabi, Dambulla Sixers captain : Good recovery from Chapman and Wiki to put up an unbeaten 150 runs stand. Everyone knew that Pallekelle was a batting wicket, always plays well for the batters. I think we ended up with 10-15 runs short. Overall it was a good game, hopefully we'll do better next time. Happy to be involved here once again, nice tournament. Can't wait to be back for the next game and hopefully get our first win.
Player of the Match, Dasun Shanaka : Really happy to continue with the bowling. Coming into the tournament, both the captain and coach mentioned about the need for someone to step up as an opening bowler so it was really great to contribute in that phase of the match. Grateful to make some early inroads in this match. I executed today with the bat so really happy. Both teams batted well, especially Chapman for them. Quality players out there too. That mixture of youth and experience really helps. High scores are always good for the tournament, let's hope they continue.
Kandy Falcons (183 for 4 from 17.2 overs) defeat Dambulla Sixers (179 for 4) by 6 wickets
Highest successful chase by Kandy Falcons in their LPL history!
It started in the best possible fashion for Dambulla when Fletcher got knocked over for a golden duck in the first innings of the chase. Mohammad Haris never looked at ease during his 8 ball stay either before he was put out of his misery. Kamindu Mendis joined Dinesh Chandimal on a day when the latter showcased his supreme class and shotmaking skills.
Kamindu Mendis stitched up a 56 run partnership with Chandimal, who was striking it cleanly and consistently before Chamindu Wickramasinghe - who could do no wrong today accounted for the former just at the stroke of the halfway mark.
That got Angelo Matthews to the middle but the events occurring at the other end of the pitch had no impact on Chandimal as he kept unleashing his wide array of shots before Akila Dananjaya produced a breakthrough that Dambulla was desperate for - knocking over Dinesh Chandimal for a well made 65 from only 40 balls in a fashion which was so unlucky for someone who was batting with such aplomb.
That is when Angelo Matthews was partnered with Dasun Shanaka who not only started this game in an emphatic fashion for Kandy, but was also keen on finishing this game on a high. In the 4 overs from 13th to 17th, 66 runs were scored including a 23 run over from Mustafizur and a 21 runs over from Nuwan Thushara that really killed the chase on a day where batting units recovered from top order debacles not once, but twice.
It was a fabulous partnership of 72 runs from just 26 balls that ensured Kandy's victory with Shanaka finishing with 46 runs from only 15 balls. This has been a special chase!
Presentations to follow soon!
17.2 Dilshan Madushanka to Dasun Shanaka, SIX! That's it as the Kandy Falcons win by 6 wickets. Short of a length delivery from Madushanka, Shanaka gets into position early and goes for the pull, was more of a top edge but still carries well over the fine leg fence.
17.1 Dilshan Madushanka to Dasun Shanaka, on a hard-length a shade outside off, Shanaka swings across the line and gets beaten.
Only the formalities left, you would believe. They are one hit away now.

16.6 Nuwan Thushara to Angelo Mathews, FOUR! Boundaries are flowing here. Pace on around the middle stump channel, Mathews got into positon early and ends up flicking that a bit aerially over the long leg fence.
