Ollie Pope (captain, England): Credit to the bowlers. They did their best on Day 1 and Day 2 and also the batters, Root and Brook scoring 250 and 300 was a great effort. When you bat first and score 550, you think they are in the driving seat but then on Day 3 when you are 260 behind that is when it starts to click in. We got the ball to turn and reverse a bit and ensured that we got a result, even though if we were chasing 140 odd. Brydon bowled well, and showed a good heart. Jack Leach has had success before and has picked up crucial wickets for us before. I smoked one straight to midwicket but what matters is that we are on the right side of the result.

Shan Masood (captain, Pakistan): We've spoken about the third and fourth innings. At the end of the day, it is a team game and it has its own repercussions. We spoke about scoring 550 and picking up ten wickets but we failed to do that. We are getting into good positions, with the batting attack scoring big runs. 220 runs in the third innings depending on the need is a good score. We should learn from England to pick up 20 wickets and we need to improve and learn to set matches on Days four and five. We are in the middle of the series and have spoken about the mentality and consistency. England showed how to go about things and we might have conditions our way or not. We need to perform on a regular basis. We love playing the game, hurt as a nation by the result. But the game gives you another chance and will be beneficial for us. I never try and shy away from responsibility. What hurts is that Pakistan Cricket is not getting the result it deserves and hopefully we are able to turn things around

Harry Brook (Player of the Match, 317 runs off 322 runs): (First thoughts on the knock) Enjoyed a lot! It was tough out in the middle in the head, but it was great to bat with Joe Root! The idea was to keep batting, keep the scoreboard moving over. Well when it came to scoring 300 runs, it was about rotating strike and keeping myself hydrated. Hopefully, many more runs to come!

A fourth win for England in Pakistan, their third after conceding 500 or more and Pakistan's sixth loss on the trot with three home defeats! Wow, what a game of Test cricket. England blazed their way in their first innings to force a result and have managed to get it, one that will be remembered for quite some time by the loyal Test cricket folk back in England.

Pakistan batted first and with three centurions and a half-century in their batting lineup, they made 556 runs in 149 overss. Skipper Shan Masood, Agha Salman, Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel made merry of the pitch on offer and did a great job posting a big first innings total, which they thought would be just about enough to Test the visitors and have them on their haunches.

What they didn't think through was how would England walk out to bat. They came out with such intent that would have the likes of Kevin Pietersen with his jaw on the floor. England batted and kept batting with such a rate they ended up scoring 823/8 and declared. Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett scored brisk 70s and 80s respectively while Joe Root scored another 250+ score against Pakistan and arguably the Player of the Match, Harry Brook, ran riot with 317 to his name and became England's first triple centurion in over a century.

A lead of 267 was sizeable enough and while everyone thought the game was heading towards a draw, Pakistan's 3rd innings woes said, "Not this time". Abdullah Shafique took two minutes to take his guard and another minute to map his walk back to the pavilion on the first delivery. The biggest names of this batting lineup, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan and Shan Masood failed with Pakistan reeling on 82/6. Aamer Jamal and Agha Salman scored half-centuries but that wasn't enough as they were skittled for 220 and allowed England to convert a draw to an innings victory.

Jack Leach picked up four, Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse shared two each in the third innings while Chris Woakes picked up the solitary wicket of Babar Azam. With a stupendous bowling performance, England took a 1-0 lead in this series.
