It is a placid surface and so, the new ball is the only way of doing the necessary damage. There are some rough patches near the good length area for the spinners to make use of.

Right then - that's all we have for you from the first Test of Bangladesh's 2024 tour of the West Indies. We had four and a half days of entertaining cricket - it was mundane at times, the hosts sure took their time with the bat in the first innings, but it helped them lay the foundation for what followed. Bangladesh will look to take the positives from this contest - the display from their fast bowlers being a prominent one. Both sides will meet each other at Jamaica for the second Test next Saturday - on the 30th of November. Join us right here on Sportskeeda for our coverage of that, and in the meantime, keep an eye on our page for a whole lot more! This is Rajarshi Das, signing off. See you soon - keep following Sportskeeda!
Kraigg Brathwaite, West Indies captain: A lot of learning has taken place from the England tour. Keep telling the guys to learn, we've seen some improvement since the South Africa series. Unfortunately, two of the guys didn't get to their hundreds, but we saw a hundred and that's a positive. Good to get a Test win, we've got to continue working hard. I believe it's a step (on the pace attack's quality) but we have to keep going. We have some quality fast bowlers and with Justin Greaves to follow as a fifth seamer is superb as a team. These guys have a lot of skill, Alzarri with the extra pace, Shamar when ready has a lot of pace too. (On how to improve on the batting) Stay hungry is one, some of the guys have got big fifties but that's over. It's about learning, where you could have rotated better, or attacking. Those type of discussions, and how we can be tighter against the new ball. Good to see some guys get scores, it's about confidence. The more you play you keep going. (On the supporters at the cricket) It means a lot. Can't explain how much it does. I've seen these spectators every time we play, even in practice games. They're always there, to get that kind of support is what we need. Must appreciate them, for sure.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Bangladesh captain: We bowled really well, Taskin got six wickets. They had a good partnership (first innings), we didn't bat well in this match. We made a few mistakes, can happen. We hope we come back strongly, good opportunity the next match, boys know the mistakes this match. We think about how to get better, and have chat within the team about it. We have good pacers right now - Taskin, Hasan and Nahid Rana. They bowled well and worked hard the last few years. We have a few spinners too - Taijul bowled well the first innings. Happy with that. We lacked at a few aspects, didn't bat well the first innings. We'll focus on that and look to be better at it.
Justin Greaves has been adjudged Player Of The Match! Here's what he has to say: Contributing to the team and winning the Test match - a very good feeling. At the end of the day with 250 for 6, Josh and I had a plan, didn't go to that. Thankful to Kemar, with him we put the team in a strong position. Just express myself, Kraigg backs me in that. Supporting the fast bowlers while bowling. Just keep believing in myself all the time. There'll be bumps on the road, need to keep believing.
Match summary:
West Indies win by 201 runs
Despite Jaker Ali's presence at the crease, it was a matter of time before the West Indies pacers were going to mop the Bangladesh tail up. It took less than an hour for the match to finish - Bangladesh decided to declare their second innings as well. Shoriful Islam copped a blow to the back of his head, and citing the future of this series and the safety of their premier fast bowlers, Mehidy Hasan Miraz decided to call things off.
The only time we saw Bangladesh put up a fair fight was yesterday, but they were far behind in the first innings to pose a challenge. Taskin Ahmed led the way with a six-wicket haul - the first instance he picked up five wickets or more in a Test match innings. However, the Bangladesh batting line-up weren't able to back the effort of their bowlers - Kemar Roach led the way, picking up three top-order wickets, and the Bangladesh middle-order caved soon after.
Overall, this was a truly convincing performance from the hosts - both with the bat and the ball. Mikyle Louis and Alick Athanaze will be keen on batting longer the next time they stride out - they just about missed out on their hundreds this Test. Justin Greaves dug in, batted long and registered a three-figure score of his own, laying a solid foundation for the West Indies eventually.
Oh! It looks like Bangladesh have declared their second innings too! Or has Shoriful Islam decided to retire hurt? Either way, we see the players shake hands - West Indies win the first Test by a margin of 201 runs!
Looks like Shoriful is going through a concussion test. The first ball of Alzarri's previous over did graze the back of his head. This is taking a while... wait a minute - what's happening here?

37.6 Jayden Seales to Taskin Ahmed, goes for a bye... gets there! Full, angled across the batter. Taskin looked to get bat on ball without using his feet, makes no contact but runs blindly. Shoriful was ready for the bye too, but would have been yards short had Joshua Da Silva found the stumps with his over-arm throw. Seales gathered, back-handed the ball onto the stumps at the keeper's but Shoriful was home by then
37.5 Jayden Seales to Taskin Ahmed, on a good length, angled wide of the batter from over the wicket. Taskin flays his bat at it, meets thin air
