Shahadat Hossain: A Brief Biography
Shahadat Hossain Biography
Shahadat Hossain is a Bangladeshi cricketer. He plays the role of a fast-medium bowler in the team and was called the fastest bowler in the team by the then coach of Bangladesh Dav Whatmore.
Background
Shahadat Hossain was born on 7 August 1986 in Narayanganj, Bangladesh. His raw talent was handpicked by the Bangladesh Institute of Sports (BKSP). He made his first-class debut in 2004.
Debut
Hossain made his Test debut against England on May 2005. It was a performance to forget. He conceded over 100 runs in just 12 overs and went wicketless as Bangladesh were handed an innings defeat.
His ODI debut came in 2006 against Kenya at Bogra. He put in a decent spell of 1/16 in that match. His T20 debut was against Zimbabwe in November 2006, where he picked up two wickets for 22 runs.
Rise to Glory
Shahadat became a mainstay for Bangladesh after doing well in Sri Lanka in 2005. In 2006, he became the first Bangladeshi cricketer to take a hattrick as Bangladesh won the match against Zimbabwe.
His international career spanned over seven years where he produced moments of brilliance but much like his national team, failed to maintain high standards demanded in the game.
He achieved his best Test figures of 6/27 against South Africa in 2008. Unfortunately, Bangladesh could not carry themselves to victory with the momentum and lost a closely contested match.
Low Points
Hossain failed to put consistent performances for Bangladesh and usually ended up conceding runs. He was out of the national team for over a year before returning in 2009.
But he had lost a lot of his pace and vicious seam bowling. He produced sporadic magnificence but never got going and his contract was revoked by Bangladesh Cricket Board in 2013.
Club Career
Hossain plays for Dhaka Division in the domestic Test tournament. He was bought by Khulna Royal Bengals for Bangladesh Premier League in 2012.
Stats
He has played 38 Tests and 51 ODIs and has six T20 international caps to his name. He has picked up 72 wickets in Tests and 47 wickets in ODIs.
