Commentary

Alright! New Zealand were down after posting a below-par total but they were never out of this contest. Southee and Boult demolished the West Indies batting inside the powerplay and the hosts didn't recover from the early setback. This series is nicely poised and we will wait and watch what we have in store for the decider on Sunday. Until then, this is Pragadeesh and Lavil signing off. See yaa

Tom Latham (New Zealand Captain): It was a fantastic performance. Finn played an exceptional innings. We have two world class fast bowlers and the way they bowled in the powerplay with a bit of help from the wicket was terrific. When Trent gone down, it was difficult when you are a bowler short. We certainly know what sort of power they possess at the back end, but we got rewarded for some good bowling performance. Allen is a powerful batter, so devastating on his day but the maturity he showed was too good and that turned out to be the difference. We want to build partnership low down the order and try to bat 50 overs. This is something we will obviously work on.

Nicholas Pooran (West Indies Captain): Very pleased. Very happy with the bowling performance as they were so disciplined. It's a disappointing performance with the bat. Yannik and Alzarri played beautifully and that partnership was really good to watch. We have to work very hard as New Zealand are not going to give anything easily. Yannik has been working very hard in the first-class cricket and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands

Finn Allen: It was nice to get to the team to the competitive total. We felt that had we batted 10 more overs we could've added more runs. Mitchell and I thought that it was a tough period and realised to bat through the innings. He was a calming influence and helped me bat better. It is nice to take confidence from the fact that I could help my team in a tough situation. West Indies bowled well. These are tough conditions and challenging to bat and I have enjoyed it so far

It was a scintillating win for the visitors as they kept their batting let-off aside and bundled West Indies out for 161 runs. When you have Trent Boult and Tim Southee in the opposition bowling attack, you can't take any total for granted. The West Indies batters learnt that in a hard way.

The deadly duo produced a menacing bowling display with the new ball and in a blink of an eye, the wickets kept tumbling for the hosts. They were reduced to 27-6 inside the powerplay. West Indies batters have to blame themselves for this batting failiure as they played some loose drives while trying to chase the deliveries outside off-stump and paid the price.

There was another rain interruption in the middle for 53 minutes, but once the match restarted, Alzarri Joseph showed his batting prowess by smacking the New Zealand spinners all over the park. Trent Boult didn't take the field due to injury and that proved to be a headache for Tom Latham as he stuck with Glenn Phillips.

Joseph went into a rampage mode and nearly got his maiden ODI half-century but Tim Southee knocked him over to give his team a huge relief. Yannic Cariah, on the other hand, showed enough maturity with the bat and scored his maiden half-century but he ran out of partners at the other end

It's deemed as a perfect catch by Finn Allen and it's all over now. Should've been over a long back but that knock from Alzarri Joseph and fighting innings from Yannic Cariah only helped West Indies to reduce the deficit of the defeat

Full-length delivery outside the off stump, Cariah looked to go inside out towards deep extra cover and connects it well. He, however, doesn't get enough connection and Finn Allen at the boundary ropes takes an amazing running catch. The umpires decide to go upstairs and check whether it is a fair catch and the umpire decides to stay with the on-field decision. New Zealand win by 50 runs (DLS) and level the series 1-1
