Tyler Johnson is a professional ice hockey player known for his success with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the NHL. Raised in the Spokane suburb of Liberty Lake, Washington, Tyler Johnson completed his education with honors at Central Valley High School.

Tyler Johnson's ice hockey playing career began with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League (WHL) in 2007-08. He was selected by the Chiefs in the 11th round of the 2005 WHL Bantam Draft. Johnson played in 69 games for the Chiefs in his rookie season, scoring 13 goals and adding 22 assists. He helped the Chiefs win the Ed Chynoweth Cup as the WHL champions. The Chiefs then advanced to the 2008 Memorial Cup, where they defeated the Kitchener Rangers 4-1 to win the championship.He was also named the WHL playoffs' Most Valuable Player as a 17-year-old rookie. Johnson continued to improve in his second season with the Chiefs, scoring 26 goals and adding 35 assists in 62 games. He also played in 12 playoff games, scoring five goals and adding three assists. Johnson's third season with the Chiefs was even better, as he tallied 36 goals and 35 assists in 64 games. During his fourth season he crossed 100 points in his best ever season with the Chiefs. He was named to the WHL's First All-Star Team and was also awarded the Brad Hornung Trophy as the most sportsmanlike player of the WHL. After his fourth season with the Chiefs, Johnson was signed by the Tampa Bay Lightning as an undrafted free agent. Johnson spent the next two seasons in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Lightning's affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals. He was a dominant force in the AHL, scoring 75 goals in 137 games.

Johnson was recalled to the Lightning in the 2012-13 season and quickly established himself as a regular in the lineup. He played in 14 games and scored 3 goals. Johnson continued to be a key player for the Lightning in the following seasons. Tyler Johnson won two Stanley Cups, both with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021 respectively. Johnson has played for the Chicago Blackhawks since the 2021-22 season. Johnson is a two-time All-Star and is considered to be one of the best two-way forwards in the NHL.
