Born on August 13, 1993, he was selected by the Calgary Flames in the fourth round (104th overall pick) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. Gaudreau is also known as "Johnny Hockey.”

Gaudreau debuted during the 2014-2015 NHL season and earned a place in the All-Star game. The same season, he was also a finalist for the Calder Memorial Trophy.
