Ellis was born and raised in Eustis, Florida and first attended Eustis High School before transferring to Leesburg High School in Leesburg, Florida. Keon Ellis showed early potential for Leesburg as he led them to back-to-back Class 6A state titles. Ellis went on to average 12.7 points, 11 rebounds and two assists per game as a senior. Later Ellis played college basketball at Florida SouthWestern from 2018 to 2020 and then at Alabama from 2020 to 2022.
