LaMelo Ball is an American professional basketball player. Born on August 22, 2001, LaMelo started his National Basketball Association (NBA) career with the Charlotte Hornets. In the 2020 NBA draft, he was selected as the third overall pick by the Hornets. LaMelo played high school ball at Chino Hills High School in Chino Hills, California. While in high school along with his older brothers Lonzo and LiAngelo, he won a state championship and achieved national success as a freshman.
Later he signed with the Lithuanian professional team Prienai. He also played in the Junior Basketball Association (JBA) in 2018. He returned to high school in Geneva, Ohio, as a senior with SPIRE Academy. Ball chose to forgo college basketball and play in Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) in 2019. With the Illawarra Hawks, he won the NBL Rookie of the Year, before joining the NBA.
