That is that from the league stage of PSL for this season. Up next are the playoffs where Multan Sultans will take on Peshawar Zalmi to begin all the action in a couple of days time. Make sure you join us for that. For now, this is Sourabh in the company of Rudransh wishing you a very good night! Good bye
Mohammad Rizwan (Player of the match and Multan Sultans captain) - We wanted to bat first today and they allowed us to bat after winning the toss. For a while, we felt that we had less runs on the board but the finish that was provided by Charles and Iftikhar was exceptional. Iftikhar has so much ability and that is why he is so crucial for us down the order. We plan according to every single opponent, next match against Zalmi we will have a discussion around it. If you see, our opening combination has changed in this tournament and it has not made a lot of difference. The beauty of this season has been that all the teams have been in with a chance to qualify until the last moments.
Time for the post-match presentations!
Rilee Rossouw (Quetta Gladiators captain): Well, our batting once again let us down. Our bowlers did really, really well. The bottom line is that I need to start scoring runs. If that happens, the team would do well. I am letting the team down. We wanted to play good cricket in the lead-up to the finals. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Hopefully we can turn it around in the last three games.
Usama Mir: It's a special achievement for me to be the highest wicket-taker in the tournament. The credit goes to the team management and the captain, who also backed me when I was down after the last match. We had to land it in the right areas. Again, thanks to the skipper for backing me.
MATCH SUMMARY
Multan Sultans won by 79 runs
Mohammad Rizwan 69(47) | Usama Mir 3/22(3.5) Omair Bin Yousuf 37(25) | Mohammad Amir 2/40(4)
Multan Sultans have handed Quetta Gladiators an absolute shellacking and in doing so they have moved to the top of the points table and have booked a date with Peshawar Zalmi in the Qualifier.
This chase from Quetta Gladiators just did not get going at any stage of the innings and they ended up way short of the target losing all their wickets in the process. It was all about the bowlers of Multan Sultans who had an absolute field day. It all started with David Willey dismissing Jason Roy and then accounting for another one in the powerplay.
Quetta lost three wickets in the powerplay and did not recover from that point of time. Every bowler who came in to bowl, except Chris Jordan who bowled well too, got wickets with the Gladiators putting up a dismal performance with the bat being bowled out for the lowest total of this season. Omair Bin Yousuf top-scored for them with 37 runs.
For Multan, Usama Mir made a brilliant comeback after the previous match as he extended his lead at the top of the bowling charts adding 3 more wickets tonight. Willey got 3 too with Abbas Afridi and Mohammad Ali chipping in with 2 and 1 wickets respectively.
Earlier in the piece, Multan Sultans went about their business as per usual with the bat. They kept wickets in hand in the first half of their innings and exploded in the later half, a template they have been following consistently. Skipper Rizwan got another half-century with a score of 69 but the real impetus was provided by a 29-ball 52 from Johnson Charles and late cameo of 20 runs in 8 balls by Iftikhar Ahmed.
Quetta bowlers did not have much to show for their efforts as they were unable to take wickets on a regular basis. Amir got 2 for them while Abrar and Wasim Jr. got 1 each.
15.5 Usama Mir to Mohammad Wasim Jr., CLEANED UP! IF THIS WAS A BETTER BATTER IN A TEST, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A BALL OF THE CENTURY NOMINEE! On a length pitching on the leg-stump with hundreds of revs on that. Wasim Jr. goes outside the line and looks to push it straight but it turns big to hit top of middle and off! Sultans take a convincing win to go to the top of the table!
15.4 Usama Mir to Mohammad Wasim Jr., googly but he does well to stay inside the line and push it
15.3 Usama Mir to Mohammad Wasim Jr., looks to jam it outside the off-stump, the ball pitches on a full length and bounces over
15.2 Usama Mir to Mohammad Wasim Jr., flighted outside the off-stump, rips off the surface and past the batter's willow
