Suryakumar Yadav (captain, India): They were playing some good brand of cricket from ball 1. They kept the tempo up despite wickets falling. We practised over here in the last couple of days, luckily there was no dew. We thought that the game was slipping away from us but then we remembered from what situation we won the World Cup and told ourselves that the match is not away from us.

Charith Asalanka (captain, Sri Lanka): We were not upto the mark in the powerplay and came back really strong in the later stages. I thought they will get to 240 but they did well to pull in back. Little disappointed with the way the middle order, including myself. We were in a winning position up to the 16th over. This is a new way we are trying to implement and take it ahead in the future.

Shubman Gill - Not really, we had a great communication. We knew chasing 214, if we get a couple of wickets, we can get back into the game. It's great batting with him (Jaiswal). We bat differently and that's why it works. If you are batting out there, you have to score quickly and that's always the communication. We have a total in mind and bat accordingly

India start their new era in the shortest format with a statement victory over the Lankans. Suryakumar Yadav and his troops were behind the 8 ball at one point in time but did well to come back and win the game.

Sri Lanka were quick to get off the blocks. They managed to get boundaries under their belt. They will feel they missed out on the second over of the chase but they capitalised on the remaining deliveries. Kusal Mendis and Nissanka ensured they stayed till the end and ensured the boundaries came at regular intervals.

Mendis and Nissanka enjoyed the bowling that was served to them and picked up boundaries with ease. The duo continued to keep the innings run rate around 9-10 runs per over and keep the Indian bowlers under pressure. Mendis lost his wicket looking to follow up with a maximum and lost his wicket, but Nissanka was undeterred and smashed a maximum in the same over his opening partner was dismissed.

Nissanka blazed away and got to his 50 but things changed in the 15th over, when Axar Patel accounted for Nissanka and Kusal Perera. In the next over, it was Ravi Bishnoi who sent Charith Asalanka back into the hut, with the equation then reading 56 runs needed off 24 balls.

Matters got worse as Sri Lanka lost Dasun Shanaka for a diamond duck, making it 4 wickets in 20 runs for Sri Lanka. The visitors took a punt and bowled Riyan Parag with the all-rounder picking up a wicket and breaking the partnership between the last recognised Lankan batting pair. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Hasaranga and with that, all hopes of a Sri Lanka win came to an end. Riyan Parag was handed the ball in the last few overs and he made merry of it, picking up 3 wickets in the 1 and half over he bowled and sealing the win for India.
