Ilya Samsonov is an ice hockey goaltender for the Vegas Golden Knights in the NHL. He began his professional career with Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the KHL, making his debut during the 2014–15 season. Samsonov was ranked as the top European goaltender in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and was selected 22nd overall by the Washington Capitals.
Samsonov continued playing in the KHL before signing a three-year, entry-level contract with Washington in 2018. After spending time with the AHL’s Hershey Bears, he made his NHL debut in the 2019–20 season, winning his first 11 games, becoming the first rookie goalie to do so since 1973–74. Samsonov later played for the Toronto Maple Leafs before joining the Vegas Golden Knights.
