He was born on May 15, 1996, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Merrill graduated from the Utah State University and played for their college team. In his freshman season, he averaged 9.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. Merrill's progression can be seen with him improving each season during his college career.
