Niroshan Dickwella (Galle Marvels' captain): I want to thank the Lord first. When I spoke to Hales when we walked out to bat, I told him that we should go for it and build a partnership as well. I wanted to target the leg-spinner. We dragged the game till the very end but managed to cross the line. We played well.

Charith Asalanka (Jaffna Kings' captain): I think we had enough runs on the board. The spinners bowled really well, but I feel that the pacers could have been more effective. Their openers batted really well, and I congratulate them.

Alex Hales is the Player of the Match: It was a different surface than the ones I am used to back in the UK. It took me a bit of time but I managed to cash in when I got settled. Dickwella made my job really easy. I just wanted to keep going. It did not happen in the powerplay but later on I managed to get some momentum going my way.

This game saw a lot of topsy-turvy events till the very end but eventually it was the stronger team that kept its composure and won quite convincingly.

Jaffna Kings bowled well till the end but were not able to convert it into a positive result even as Galle Marvels chased the target down, albeit with a tad discomfiture towards the end.

They will be immensely proud of their efforts here and hope that they can carry this momentum further into the tournament. Defeating a team as decorated as Jaffna is not easy and it must give Galle a lot of confidence.

One can only hope that this confidence is not misplaced and they carry this momentum throughout the tournament. They will be looking forward to putting up many such showings for their legion of fans throughout this tournament.

The solid knocks played by Alex Hales and Niroshan Dickwella played a massive role for Galle in the end, as did the brave scoop shot that Sahan Arachchige played to seal the deal for his team.
