That brings us to the end of our coverage from Qualifier 1. We will be back tomorrow for the eliminator clash. Tune in for all sporting coverage from Sportskeeda but for now this is me (Arya Sekhar Chakraborty) signing off also on behalf of my fellow commentators Rajarshi Das and Sourabh Agarwal.
Mohammad Rizwan (Multan Sultans captain): I am very happy that the reason you are working hard we have got the result. If you see last year and this year things were going similar. But in this PSL the effort has been there but we haven't always managed to win. If you look at the tournament whenever the bowlers are bowling well you win tournaments. Both our batters and bowlers are doing well. We have the confidence that we have both of them available. The way Yasir Khan batted he showed what he is capable of. The plus point is that after getting beaten on the first ball he hit the second ball for six. Hopefully Karachi crowd will be full in the next match.
Usama Mir (Player of the Match): I am very happy that my team has won. Thanks to the team management for the confidence they have given. They have told me that I am their main bowler in the middle overs which has given me confidence. When a leg spinner bowls in the right areas, it doesn't matter which pitch he is bowling if he is bowling in the right areas. We have an experienced bowling attack. The way David Willey has given the start then the way CJ and Abbas Afridi has bowled, the combination looks very good which helps me in the middle overs.
Multan Sultans won by 7 wickets (with 9 deliveries to spare)
Yasir Khan 54(37) | Chris Jordan 2/28(4) Babar Azam 46(42) | Aamer Jamal 1/23(3)
It turned out to be a pretty convincing win for the Multan Sultan's in the end which was set up by Yasir Khan's fifty. Iftikhar Ahmed finished off the game in style and they have directly qualified for the final and will play the winner of the eliminator which will be played tomorrow. The target wasn't a big one and the Peshawar Zalmi needed early wickets to have any chance of making a match of this.
The Multan openers Usman Khan and Mohammad Rizwan started off brilliantly mixing caution with aggression and the partnership laid the foundation for the run chase which turned out to be a pretty easy one in the end. The 61 run partnership came to an end when Aamer Jamal made the breakthrough of Aamer Jamal. Usman Khan was the next man in and batted superbly to stay unbeaten on 36. Iftikhar Ahmed then came and blazed his way to 22 and finished the match off in style with 9 deliveries left.
Babar Azam (Peshawar Zalmi captain) - We were 15 runs short. We started well but lost some wickets, me and Tom tried to rebuild and thought that 160-170 would be a par score. But, we could not get there unfortunately. Whoever comes up (when asked who would he like to face in the next match), we have confidence in ourselves. We would like to work on a couple of things going forward. All of us have belief in ourselves, coach Sammy and all the players, we will definitely come back.
Yasir Khan - Thankful to the management for trusting me. Had a chat with Babar yesterday, he told me to keep rotating to build a big innings and that helped. The 100 in the domestic tournament really helped me and gave me the confidence. If you come to our team hotel, the environment is very good, Rizwan bhai has kept everyone together. Me and Rizwan bhai always look and try to be positive.
An utterly convincing win for the Multan Sultans and they directly qualify for the final. It will be interesting to see how Peshawar deal from this defeat.
18.3 Luke Wood to Usman Khan, MULTAN ARE THROUGH TO THE FINAL!!! pitched up on the stumps, Usman drives it to mid-off and they go through for yet another quick single, Babar misses the stumps and Usman gets there safely
18.2 Luke Wood to Iftikhar Ahmed, yorker outside off, chopped to point for a single
18.1 Luke Wood to Iftikhar Ahmed, BOOM!! Pitches it into the slot and Iftikhar says thank you so much, smokes it over mid-wicket for a maximum
