Rishabh Rajendra Pant is a professional Indian cricketer born on October 4, 1997, in Haridwar, Uttarakhand. He is a wicketkeeper-batsman who represents the Indian men’s cricket team across all formats in international cricket. Pant plays as the first-choice wicket-keeper who plays as a left-handed batter in the middle order.

According to Sportstar, he has already equaled MS Dhoni’s record of most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper-batter in Tests (6). Pant was the captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season. In late 2022, Pant met with an accident and was ruled out for about 18 months from playing professional cricket. He returned to play professional cricket in IPL 2024 and made his international comeback in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. According to the official website of the IPL, Pant became the most expensive player in IPL history in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

In 2024, Pant earned a hefty paycheck from the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) and the Delhi Capitals in the IPL. He will continue to earn a lump sum amount of money in the IPL 2025 season with the Lucknow Super Giants.

Rishabh Pant’s early exploits in Tests in 2018 ensured that he received his first central contract in 2019. According to The Times of India, Pant was paid a remuneration of INR 5 crores by the BCCI in their 2018-2019 annual retainership contract. As per the official website of the BCCI, Pant was retained under the same category and earned INR 5 crores in 2019-20. With MS Dhoni being left out of the central contract list, Pant was considered the first-choice wicketkeeper across formats. After earning a salary of INR 5 crores for three straight years, Pant was demoted to the Grade B category, as per reports from The Times of India. He missed out on playing international cricket due to his accident and earned INR 3 crores in 2024 from the BCCI.

The Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) signed Rishabh Pant for INR 1.9 crores in the IPL 2016 auction. Since the IPL 2018 mega auction, he was retained for INR 8 crores for four seasons. Pant was the first-choice retention ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and has retained for INR 16 crores ever since. He landed an IPL deal worth INR 27 crore with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2025 mega auction, making him the most expensive player in the history of the IPL.

Rishabh Pant's contract in 2024

Following his car accident and lack of game time in international cricket, Rishabh Pant was relegated by the BCCI in the 2023-24 annual retainership contract. He was contracted with the Delhi Capitals since his IPL debut and led the team in IPL 2024. In the IPL 2025 mega auction, Pant signed a lucrative deal with the Lucknow Super Giants.

Rishabh Pant's IPL contract

After featuring in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2016, 18-year-old Rishabh Pant was acquired by the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals). He has been contracted with the Capitals and was appointed as the captain of the Capitals in IPL 2021. Pant signed a whopping deal with the Lucknow Super Giants and will be playing for the franchise in IPL 2025.
