He made his international debut in January 2016 during the ODI series against India, followed by his T20I debut in the same series. After his debut series, Boland continued to play T20I and ODI matches against New Zealand, West Indies, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.
In late December 2021, Boland earned his Test cap for Australia during the Ashes. Competing in the final three matches of the series, he took 18 wickets at an average of 9.55.
