Faf du Plessis (winning captain and Player of the Match): Real good intent in the powerplay, if we get a little bit ahead in the powerplay, the chase will be easier. It will also be putting pressure on the bowlers. I think it is the balance of someone playing on merit, and someone being the aggressor. On another day, someone else will take up the role. He (Conway) was frustrated, he was trying to hit the ball but it was one of those scratchy knocks. He got one of the middle and then his confidence boosted. We were there and there regarding the run rate. I wasn't sure at the toss what to do at the toss, knew they are a good side chasing. 163 looked under par, thought 180-185 would have been a good total. (On Bravo injured) It is a big scare, he is a good death bowler. Stoinis bowling the over at the end did a fantastic job. Even Hardie bowling at the end did a good job, he hasn't bowled much for us but made a difference of 10-15 runs with his bowling
Kieron Pollard (MI New York captain): Obviously we were in with a chance. We wanted to get 170 which might have made a difference. The ball came into the bat nicely in the second innings due to the mizzle. You can look at all different aspects. We weren't sharp in the field. We weren't totally up to the mark but Texas played better cricket and deserved to go on and qualify for the next round. We have fought all the way through the tournament. We will regroup and try and come back stronger. The American guys have to keep working hard to get to the highest level. We didn't play our best cricket and hopefully things will be different next year.
Devon Conway: Yeah struggled to match Faf. Just made me to get into the game. Tough night for me with the timing and the rhythm. It was important to bat sensibly after Faf's dismissal as I ugly as I looked it didn't matter. We wanted to be positive and it came off.
Texas Super Kings beat MI New York by 9 wickets
Texas Super Kings: 167/1 after 18.3 overs Faf du Plessis: 72(47b) | Devon Conway: 51(43b)* Nostush Kenjige: 1/24 (3 overs)
Well, that result was on the cards as MI New York struggled to pick up a wicket up until the 13th over. The defending champions have run their race, it is now down to TSK, who will be watching the Qualifier in anticipation to see whom they face on Friday night.
The chase got off to a good start. Faf du Plessis, the tournament's leading run-getter, started off nicely, scoring boundaries at ease with the field restrictions in place. Devon Conway was slow to get off the blocks but was chipping in with ones and twos whenever possible.
Faf continued his onslaught and got to his 50, but was dismissed looking to play a big shot. MI NY had a chance to come back into the game, with Conway struggling to find the middle of the bat and Hardie just coming at the crease.
But then one shot from Conway, off the bowling of Shepherd, changed it for Conway, who went on an attacking spree and registered another 50. Aaron Hardie dealt in boundaries against Boult, before hitting the winning runs as Texas Super Kings advanced into the Challenger.
MI New York will walk back disappointed, as they should be. They were subpar with the bat, and subpar with the ball in hand as well. Nostush Kenjige was the only bowler with a wicket, while Rashid Khan and Romario Shepherd came close. The fielding was under-par as well as they could not effect run-outs and also conceded soft runs out in the middle.
Let's now go down to the presentation to see what the captains have to say.
18.3 Rushil Ugarkar to Aaron Hardie, TSK are through to Qualifier 2. Fuller on the pads, worked away towards the fine leg region and takes a single to complete the victory.
18.2 Rushil Ugarkar to Aaron Hardie, that's a stunning shot from Hardie. Back of a length delivery a shade outside off, Hardie stands tall and punches it on the up, well wide of the widish long off fielder and comes back for a brace.
18.1 Rushil Ugarkar to Devon Conway, pace off fuller-length delivery around middle, worked away down towards the long on region for a single.
Hardie pressed his foot down and said, "Enough is Enough." The Aussie launches against Boult and ends the game in the over, as TSK need 4 runs to win in 12 balls
