Dylan Larkin is an American ice hockey professional player who currently serves as the captain for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League (NHL). He was selected by the Red Wings as the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Before coming to the NHL, Larkin showcased his talent at the University of Michigan. Larkin started his college hockey career in the 2014-2015 season. In January 2015, he was recognized as the Hockey Commissioners Association National Rookie of the Month. Later, he was named the Freshman of the Year and earned a place on the All-Freshman Team. Larkin was also recognized as the Second Team All-American. He finished the season with impressive stats and was named as All-Big Ten First Team.

The 27-year-old Dylan Larkin is set to earn a salary of $10,000,000 with a cap hit of $8,700,000 for the 2023-24 season from the Detroit Red Wings. Larkin is under an eight-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings for $69,600,000 with a cap hit of $8,700,000. He was selected by the Red Wings in the 15th overall pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and since then he has signed three contracts in his career. The total value of all his contracts is $104,375,000. The first contract that he signed was a three year entry level contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The contract was worth $4,275,000 and he received a signing bonus of $277,500. The second contract which he signed was a five year contract extension with the Red Wings for $30.05 million.The third and the latest is an eight year contract worth $69,600,000. The contract has two clauses, a full no team trade applicable from 2023-2027 and a 10 team trade list applicable from 2028-2030. He will commence his unrestricted free agency after the completion of his contract. Larkin has earned an estimated amount of $33,275,000 in his NHL career.

Over his nine-season career, Larkin has collected 454 points in 601 regular games.

Dylan Larkin NHL Journey

In May 2015, Larkin signed a three-year contract with the Detroit Red Wings and made his NHL debut on October 9, 2015, where he secured a place on the Red Wings's roster where he scored his first point and goal and helped the Red Wings secure a historic win. He continued showing his talent, earning the NHL Rookie of the Month title for November 2015. Larkin scored 23 goals and 22 assists in just 80 games during his rookie season. Larkin set a record in the 2016 NHL All-Star Game SuperSkills Competition as the fastest skater.

In his sophomore season, Larkin's stats were not as strong as his rookie year. However, he bounced back during the 2017-2018 season and contributed a lot of scores to the Red Wings. In 2021, he was named as a captain, and the same year in December, he scored his career's first hat-trick, earning him the NHL First Star of the Week award.

He continued to impress with his performance in 2023 where he secured a place in the NHL All-Star Game. On March 1, 2023, Larkin signed a lucrative eight-year contract with the Red Wings for $69.6 million. Larkin finished the 2022-2023 season with 32 goals, 47 assists, and 79 points.
