Hartenstein played in Germany and Lithuania before declaring for the 2017 NBA Draft. The Houston Rockets selected Hartenstein with the 43rd overall pick in the second round of the 2017 NBA Draft. He initially spent time in the G League, working on his game in his rookie season.
