Jonathan Allen is an American football defensive tackle for the Washington Commanders in the NFL. The Commanders drafted Allen with their 17th pick in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Allen attended Stone Bridge High School, where he began his football career. As a senior in high school, he recorded 119 tackles with nine sacks, six fumble recoveries, and eight pass breakups in 2012. Due to his amazing performance, Allen was named the 2012 Gatorade Virginia Football Player of the Year. Allen was a two-time first-team All-State performer in Virginia and a Washington Post All-Metro selection. He started his collegiate career with the University of Alabama in 2013.

As a freshman in 2013, Allen appeared in 13 games and recorded 16 total stops and 10 solo tackles, a forced fumble and one quarterback hurry. Against Virginia Tech, he recorded two solo tackles in the 35-10 victory over the Hokies in Atlanta. As a sophomore in 2014, Allen established himself as a playmaker at defensive end and one of the Crimson Tide’s top pass rushers and first-team All-SEC by the Associated Press. He recorded 33 total tackles including 16 solo stops and seven quarterback hurries. As a junior in 2015, he was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week following the Mississippi State game. Allen recorded five tackles with two solo stops in a 29-13 win at Auburn. Allen’s senior year in 2016 was his breakthrough year, where he was the winner of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, and Ted Hendricks Award and a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year and Lott IMPACT Trophy.

Jonathan Allen's Father

Richard Allen II is the father of Jonathan Allen. According to the official website of the Washington Commanders, his father was deployed as a nuclear biological chemical warfare specialist for the U.S. Army in South Korea. According to the Washington Post, Allen was two years old when his parents got divorced and his mother was granted custody. However, Allen had not attended kindergarten and failed second grade as a result of not attending primary school. After Allen and his brother got in touch with their father, despite the growing paranoia of her mom not letting them get in touch with him or attend school, his father filed for custody.

After his father was granted full custody, they relocated to Ashburn, Virginia, where his father instilled the spirit of hard work and even 'threatened' to pull him out of his high school football team if he failed to maintain his grades.

Traci Allen is the stepmother of Jonathan Allen. According to the Washington Post, Jonathan Allen and his brother, Richard III, were put into foster care by South Carolina's Child Protective Services when the local principal got worried they were not attending classes. According to CBS Sports, they were put in a foster building with 30 children and were looked after by a woman named Miss Johnson, when their parents were battling for custody. After a judge found the children 'educationally neglected' and their mother failed to attend any psychological evaluation, Richard II Allen was granted full custody of his children and they have not been in touch with her ever since, as per CBS Sports.

According to CBS Sports, Jonathan mentioned he loved his stepmom Traci to 'death.' Richard III Allen stated: "Our stepmom really became a great figure for both of us. She made us study at the dinner table for two hours after school."
