Aleksander Alesksandrovich Barkov, born on September 2, 1995, is a Finnish professional ice hockey center and the captain of the Florida Panthers in the National Hockey (NHL). Barkov was drafted by the Panthers in the first round (second overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. He is the son of former Russian ice hockey player Alexander Barkov Sr. and holds dual Finnish and Russian citizenship.

On July 15, 2013, Barkov inked an entry-level contract to kick off his professional journey with the Florida Panthers. Following the signing, he participated in the Panthers’ training camp ahead of the 2013-14 season and made his NHL debut on October 3, 2013, in a victory against the Dallas Stars. Through February 2014, he had tallied 24 points ( 8 goals and 26 assists) to earn a place at the 2014 Winter Olympics. The subsequent seasons saw him gain recognition for his style of play and his goal production.

Following the 2022-23 regular season, Barkov and the Panthers embarked on an extensive journey through the 2023 Stanley Cup playoffs. Initially criticized for their low production, Barkov and the Panthers top line got back to form as they faced the Carolina Hurricanes in the Conference Finals. Despite sustaining an injury in Game 3, Barkov returned for Game 4 and aided in sweeping the Hurricanes, earning the Panthers the Prince of Wales Trophy for the first time since 1996.
