The off-market deal saw the home's value rise from its last sale price of $2.9 million in 2016. Built in 2002 on a 0.34-acre site along a canal leading to the Intracoastal Waterway, the house features five bedrooms, six bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, an elevator, a pool, and a dock. This is the second house purchase of Gretzky family in South Florida. Previously, they accquired a townhouse in Palm Beach Garden for $1.58 million in October 2021.

Gretzky is one of the most respectful and successful players in the NHL. Throughout his NHL career, Wayen has earned a notable income. One of his luxury assets was his California mansion location in Thousand Oaks. The luxury mansion is often known as the "Gretzky Mansion." The house offered privacy, security, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

After retiring in 1999, Gretzky built this house in 2002 where he lived till 2007, and sold it for $18.5 million. He along with his wife Janet moved to Arizona where the former player was serving as a coach to the Phoenix Coyotes. The mansion was built on around 6.6 acres of land, offering a breathtaking panoramic view of Santa Monica mountains and a serene expanse of Lake Sherwood.

The mansion had a grand circular driveway decorated with a captivating water fountain at the center. Stepping in the house, it featured a double-height foyer with a wide staircase. Beside a foyer, the house had 6 spacious bedrooms including a private screening room, a gym, and a well-appointed office.

All the spaces were thoughtfully designed for comfort and entertainment. Apart from the bedrooms, the mansion featured a huge gourmet kitchen. A fireplace to add warmth and ambiance to the house with an impressive outdoor area featured a barbecue station, and a wood-burning pizza oven, offering an extra luxury to the house. When the mansion again came on the market for sale, the Gretzky family could not resist and again acquired this house in 2018 when they decided to move back to the Golden State. In 2020, the Hall of Famer and his wife Janet put it again for sale for $22.9 million. The exact reason behind selling his mansion is not disclosed publicly.
