In his debut season, Ward had 12 starts, totaling 53 tackles, three interceptions, and a forced fumble, he was also selected to the NFL All-Rookie Team and the Pro Bowl. Ward recorded 44 tackles, a sack, and three interceptions at the end of the 2019 season and 46 tackles and two interceptions at the end of the 2020 season. The Browns exercised Ward's contract's fifth-year option in 2021. After signing a five-year agreement with the Browns the following season, Ward became the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.
