Harpreet Singh Bhatia is an experienced Indian cricketer known for his contributions to domestic cricket. Born on August 11, 1991, in Durg, Chhattisgarh, he currently represents the Chhattisgarh cricket team and Central Zone. A versatile player, Harpreet is a top-order batsman and also contributes as a right-arm medium-pace bowler.

Bhatia started his domestic career in 2008, playing for the Madhya Pradesh cricket team. Over the years, he showcased consistent performances, earning a reputation as a reliable player in all formats of domestic cricket. After nearly a decade in Madhya Pradesh, he switched to Chhattisgarh in 2017, where he continued to make significant contributions for the team. Known for his consistency and determination, Harpreet has amassed over 4,000 runs in First-Class cricket, with 15 centuries under his belt, including a career-best score of 221. His versatility extends across formats, with more than 2,000 runs in T20s and over 3,000 runs in List-A cricket.

Harpreet first came into the spotlight during the 2008–09 Cooch Behar Trophy season, where he stood out as the top Under-19 performer, scoring nearly 700 runs. His impressive performance earned him the position of vice-captain for India’s Under-19 team during their 2009 tour of Australia. On that tour, he showcased his potential by accumulating 262 runs at an average of 52.40. Later that year, Harpreet made his debut for Madhya Pradesh in the prestigious Ranji Trophy, marking the beginning of his professional cricket journey. He was also selected for the Indian squad for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in 2010.

In the 2022–23 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a domestic T20 competition, Harpreet once again proved his worth by becoming the second-highest run-scorer for Chhattisgarh, with 196 runs in five innings. Harpreet's IPL journey has been a mix of highs and lows. He was signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017 as a replacement for the injured Sarfaraz Khan, but did not get an opportunity to play. However in 2023, the Punjab Kings recognized his potential and bought him at the IPL auction for INR 40 lakhs. In a game against Mumbai Indians, Harpreet made an impact with a strong 41-run innings, setting a new IPL record. Despite his solid performance, competition for spots saw him eventually dropped from the team.

Harpreet Bhatia Domestic Career

Harpreet Bhatia made his domestic first-class debut on 3 November, 2009, against Haryana, although he had made his List A debut in February 2008. He finished as Madhya Pradesh's leading run scorer in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy season, amassing an astounding 629 runs in seven games. With 271 runs in five matches, he once again led Madhya Pradesh's batting order in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, demonstrating his continued dominance on the domestic scene.

His switch to Chhattisgarh from Madhya Pradesh prior to the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy season was a big one. He rapidly established himself as an important member of his new squad, therefore this move paid off. He was Chhattisgarh's top run scorer in the Ranji Trophy that season, with 627 runs in eight games to demonstrate his versatility and skill against various sides. Harpreet Bhatia performed brilliantly in the 2022 Vijay Hazare Trophy season, scoring 516 runs in seven matches at a strike rate of 94.33.

Selectors were drawn to his steady performances, and as a result, he was included in the India Red squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy in August 2019. This acknowledgment emphasized his ascent to prominence in India's domestic cricket scene even further.

Harpreet Bhatia started his IPL career on 22 March, 2010, playing for Kolkata Knight Riders against Mumbai Indians. Despite being included in the playing eleven, Harpreet Bhatia did not get a chance to bat in that match. Harpreet Bhatia has played with three teams in the IPL so far.

After participating in one match for Kolkata Knight Riders in 2011, he played a total of three matches for Pune Warriors in 2011 and 2012, where he scored only 20 runs while batting.

Harpreet Bhatia had to wait 9 long years to play his fifth match. In the 2023 IPL, Harpreet Bhatia was included in the Punjab Kings team, after which he scored 76 runs in three matches that year, in which a brilliant innings of 41 runs off 28 balls came out from his bat against Mumbai Indians. In the 2024 IPL, Harpreet Bhatia has scored 27 runs in two matches. Harpreet Bhatia was a part of the Indian team in the 2010 ICC Under-19 World Cup. He played six matches in this tournament and scored 70 runs in three innings at an average of 23.33, which also included a half-century. In this World Cup, the Indian team was eliminated after losing to South Africa in the playoffs.
