A native of Salem, New Jersey, United States, he was drafted by the Calgary Flames with the #104th overall pick (#13th pick in the 4th round) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut for the team as a left wing during the 2013-14 season. He remained with the Calgary Flames for nine years before departing for the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022, where, he played the last two seasons of his career.
