The National Hockey League (NHL) world and its fanbase mourn the loss of Johnny Gaudreau, also known as "Johnny Hockey". A native of Salem, New Jersey, United States, he was drafted by the Calgary Flames with the #104th overall pick (#13th pick in the 4th round) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. He made his debut for the team as a left wing during the 2013-14 season. He remained with the Calgary Flames for nine years before departing for the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022, where, he played the last two seasons of his career.

Throughout his eleven-year tenure in the NHL, Johnny Gaudreau had played 763 games and scored 243 goals in his career. Additionally, he also scored 743 points and made 500 assists in his career. He was also notable for winning the Lady Byng Trophy in the 2016-17 season and also established career highs with 60 assists and 80 points in the 2017-18 season. Notably, he was the eleventh NHL player born in the United States, who scored at least 100 points and was second after Patrick Kane for the Chicago Blackhawks. Unfortunately, both Johnny Gaudreau and his younger brother Matthew Gaudreau passed away on August 29, 2024, in Oldsman Township, New Jersey, United States, after being hit by a Jeep Grand Cherokee as per CNN Sports.
