The NFL week 9 schedule will mark the halfway point in the season. The race for the divisional crown and wildcard spot would start getting close around this time as each team would have a fairly good idea as to what’s working for them and what’s not.

There are quite a few interesting matchups this week, none more so than the one between Aaron Rodgers and CJ Stroud. This week 9 NFL schedule has a whooping 9 games in the early afternoon slot of 1 p.m. on Sunday. The San Francisco 49ers and Pittsburgh Steelers will have a ‘BYE’ in week 9.

Game on Thursday, October 30

Houston Texans at New York Jets

This Thursday Night Football showdown might not have been on everyone’s radar when the schedule was released in May. However, back in June, CJ Stroud appeared on the ‘Million Dollaz Worth of Game’ podcast. When asked to choose between Eli Manning and Aaron Rodgers, Stroud made a bold statement by picking younger Manning over 4-time MVP Rodgers. This didn’t sit well with the majority of fans and instantly made the week 9 matchup between these two teams a must-watch.

Stroud will be coming into the game with a new weapon in Stefon Diggs at his disposal and a much-improved roster overall. On the flip side, Rodgers will be coming back from an injury to show the world why he is still considered one of the best throwers of all time. Both teams have playoff aspirations, so a conference win here would provide a huge benefit down the road.

Games on Sunday, November 3

Los Angeles Chargers at Cleveland Browns

This AFC matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Cleveland Browns would have a playoff feel to it. Both teams are considered underdogs to win the divisional crown so the best road for either of them to reach the playoffs is through a wildcard spot. And what better way to get a head start than a win against another playoff contender from the same conference?

The Browns would sport a healthy Deshaun Watson while the Chargers would be led by their new head coach, Jim Harbaugh. After parting ways with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, the Chargers might be lacking some firepower on offense.

Los Angeles Rams at Seattle Seahawks

The two divisional foes would be meeting each other for the first time in the 2024 season. The Rams would still be reeling from the loss of future HOF Aaron Donald who retired in the offseason while simultaneously aiming for Lombadi in Matthew Stafford’s twilight years. As long as the Rams have a former No.1 overall pick under center, anything less than a Super Bowl run would be considered a disappointment.

The Seahawks are still far away from contending for the Super Bowl as they have failed to win a single playoff game in their last 4 years. After relieving their longtime Super Bowl-winning head coach Pete Carroll from his duties, the Seahawks went with a young defensive guru, Mike Macdonald as their new HC. This is expected to be a mind game with two geniuses in Sean McVay and Macdonald trying to outdo each other.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers

One of the three games in the late Sunday afternoon slot on the NFL week 9 schedule is between two bitter rivals the Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers. The Lions signalled to the whole league that they were coming for that Lombardi trophy by signing Jared Goff and Amon Ra St. Brown to big extensions. The best news for Detroit came in the offseason when their OC Ben Johnson decided to stay with the team after all the speculations surrounding him going after a head coaching gig.

Many analysts see the Packers as the second-best team in the NFC North. After the departure of 4-time MVP Aaron Rodgers, Jordan Love saw to it that there was no drop off in the team performance as he carried the Packers to a divisional round in the playoffs in 2023. Green Bay, who released Aaron Jones in the offseason, replaced him with a star RB Josh Jacobs. A win here for either team would give them an upper hand in the race for the divisional title.
