Andy Bichel: A Brief Biography

Andy Bichel Biography

Born on 27th of August, 1970 in Laidley, Queensland, Andy Bichel was a right-arm fast bowler who played for the great Australian teams of the late 90s and the early noughties.

Background

He has majorly played for the clubs Essex, Worcestershire, Queensland, Australian Legends XI along being a part of the Australian cricket team.

Also worked as a bowling coach with the Chennai Super Kings of the Indian Super League after his retirement.

Debut

His ODI debut was on 5th of January,1997 at Adelaide Oval against West Indies followed by his Test debut again against West Indies on 25th of January,1997 at The Gabba.

His T20 debut was in Worcestershire v Gloucestershire at Worcester on 2nd of July 2004.

Rise to Glory

He had been awarded as the Man of the match in the ODI against South Africa in Sydney in 2002 and also against England in Port Elizabeth in the year 2003.

His career took a leap during the 2003 World Cup campaign.

Low Points

The most unfortunate part of his life is that he came up during the time of Brett Lee and the other great Aussie fast bowlers of the time, meaning he was never a fixture for the Aussie teams.

Moreover, a shoulder injury hampered his cricket career as his performance, to a large extent, degraded due to that injury.

Bichel's Record in Numbers

Bichel successfully retrieved Australia from many losing matches on many occasions.

It is worthy to mention here his most notable 7–20 against England in the 2003 World Cup.

This bowling performance is till today considered one of the best bowling against England in ODIs, best bowling at St George's Park in ODIs, and his best bowling in World Cups as well.

Retirement

He retired on 9 February 2009 after his contract for playing in the Australian cricket team was not offered to him which clearly showed up their intention of not including Bichel in the team.

He was then a bowling coach for the Chennai Super Kings, which has been among the most successful franchises in the IPL.
