Ripal Patel

Ripal Vinubhai Patel, popularly known as Ripal Patel, is an Indian cricketer born on September 28, 1995, in the city of Nadiad, Gujarat. He is a middle-order batter known for scoring runs quickly and also chipping in with some wickets by bowling right-arm medium-pace.

Patel represents his home side Gujarat in the domestic circuit and has played quite a few matches across all formats. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Patel has played for the Delhi Capitals (DC).

Ripal Patel made his domestic debut for Gujarat versus the Bengal cricket team at Jaipur on September 24, 2019, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2019-20 season. On his List-A debut, he scored nine runs off ten deliveries against Bengal before losing his wicket to Ashok Dinda.

The 25-year-old has not been very successful in List-A cricket. He has scored 185 runs in 13 List-A innings, with his highest score being 35. His batting average in the List-A format is a shoddy 14.23. In 4 List-A innings with the ball, Patel has taken 5 wickets at an economy of 5.86 so far.

However, his numbers in T20 cricket are much better. Patel played his first domestic T20 match against Saurashtra at Surat on November 11, 2019, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2019-20 season. He scored a 5-ball three on his T20 debut but has 460 T20 runs to his name at a strike rate of 145.11 in thirty T20 innings, as of September 2024. He has taken a solitary wicket in the 6 innings he has bowled for Gujarat in T20s so far.

Patel has made a name for himself with his six-hitting skills. In his List-A career, the middle-order batter has smashed ten fours and thirteen sixes. Meanwhile, in the game’s shortest format, Ripal has smacked 31 fours and 27 sixes for Gujarat so far.

However, his ability to hit the ball out of the park helped him earn the IPL franchises’ attention and he was eventually gobbled up by the Delhi Capitals.

In the recently concluded Ranji Trophy 2023-24 season, the 28-year-old batter made his first-class (FC) debut for Gujarat against Tamil Nadu in Valsad on January 05, 2024. He was impressive on his Ranji Trophy debut as he scored a quick 81 off just 71 balls in the second innings. Gujarat won the game by a margin of 111 runs.

Ripal Patel IPL Career

Ripal Patel bagged his maiden IPL contract at the IPL 2021 auction where the Delhi Capitals team signed him at his base price of INR 20 lakhs. The 28-year-old from Nadiad made his IPL debut against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the same season on October 4, 2021. He scored a steady 18 off 20 balls and was dismissed by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.

Patel has played a total of 9 IPL games where he scored 80 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of just about 110. He was released by the Capitals ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Hailing from Nadiad, Patel secured his maiden IPL deal thanks to his incredible big-hitting skills. As mentioned before, he has hit more sixes than fours in List-A cricket.
