Naman Ojha: A Brief Biography

Naman Ojha Biography

Naman Ojha is an Indian cricketer born on 20 July 1983 in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. He is a right-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper.

He spent most of his years in an era where the greatness of Mahendra Singh Dhoni did not allow any other wicket-keeper batsman to get into the Indian cricket team.

Background

Ojha made his first-class debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2000-01 season. Due to his exuberating batting style, he tasted more success in the limited overs format. He scored 96 playing for India Green in the Challenger Trophy in 2008.

Rajasthan Royals picked Ojha in the second season of the Indian Premier League in 2009. He smashed a brilliant 94 against Chennai Super Kings in the 2010 season while chasing 247.

Debut and Afterwards

Ojha made his ODI debut for India in a Tri-Nation Series against Zimbabwe in 2010 when most of the senior players were rested, including Mahendra Singh Dhoni. He got out on 1 run in that match, which is his only ODI till now.

He continued scoring runs in the domestic circuit. For his first-class career, he has scored 7,866 runs in 113 matches, including 19 hundreds. He scored hundreds in both innings of his 100th first-class game while playing for India A against Australia A in Brisbane.

He waited five years after his ODI debut to play his only test in 2015. In that match against Sri Lanka, he scored 21 and 35 runs in the first and second innings respectively.

Club Career

Ojha has played for sides like Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League. He proved clinical in the 2016 IPL victory for the Sunrisers.

Low Points

A naturally flamboyant batsman, Ojha is one of those cricketers who hasn’t found himself in the international arena despite performing well in domestic cricket. Even after the retirement of Dhoni from test cricket, selectors showed faith in Wriddhiman Saha instead of Ojha.

He is now 34-years old and to get back into the Indian side, he needs to score heavily in the domestic circuit.
